  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • Self-contained

Everything the model needs lives in the instructions — no extra files to sync.

  • Open source

Published by ahmadrosid on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Knowledge Base Wiki AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/ahmadrosid/nakama/tree/main/packages/core/src/skills/bundled/knowledge-base-wiki
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/ahmadrosid/nakama.git /tmp/nakama
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/nakama/packages/core/src/skills/bundled/knowledge-base-wiki .claude/skills/knowledge-base-wiki
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Knowledge Base Wiki in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Knowledge Base Wiki on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Knowledge Base Wiki is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

The wiki turns uploaded documents into pages you maintain, so a question is answered from one compiled page instead of re-reading every source. knowledge_base_search already searches knowledge-base/wiki/*.md next to the documents. Nothing else is needed for the pages to be found.

Three layers, each with one owner:

  • Sources. knowledge-base/manifest.json and the <id>.extracted.txt files beside it. The user owns them through uploads. Never write, edit or delete anything in knowledge-base/ outside wiki/.
  • Wiki. knowledge-base/wiki/*.md. You own these. They are derived from the sources, so deleting the folder loses nothing.
  • Schema. knowledge-base/wiki/SCHEMA.md. Says what pages exist and how they are shaped. You write it on the first compile and keep it current.

Reading the sources

  1. read_file knowledge-base/manifest.json. It holds documents, a list of { id, filename, status, uploadedAt, ... }.
  2. Only documents with status: "ready" have text. Their text is in knowledge-base/<id>.extracted.txt. The first three lines are a # source: / # mediaType: / # uploadedAt: header; the body follows.
  3. Use read_file with offset and limit for long documents. Do not open the stored originals (<id>--<filename>); the extracted text is the source of truth.

A replaced document gets a new id, so "changed" and "deleted" look the same here: an id a page cites is no longer in the ready set.

Page format

Every page except SCHEMA.md starts with frontmatter listing the ids of the documents it was written from:

markdown
---
title: Refund policy
sources: [kb_abc123, kb_def456]
---

# Refund policy

Refunds are issued within 14 days of a request (kb_abc123).
  • File names are lowercase kebab-case: knowledge-base/wiki/refund-policy.md. One topic per page, so a page stays short enough to read in one call.
  • sources lists only ids that are in the manifest with status: "ready", and every id listed was actually used on the page.
  • Write what the documents say. When two documents disagree, state both with their ids rather than picking one.
  • Link related pages with relative links: [Billing](billing.md).

SCHEMA.md has no sources. It lists every page with a one-line summary, the conventions above as they apply to this knowledge base, and the date of the last compile. Keep it under about 100 lines.

Compile

  1. Read the manifest and collect the ready ids.
  2. read_file knowledge-base/wiki/SCHEMA.md. If it is missing, this is the first compile: every ready document is new.
  3. Find every existing page with search_files for the query sources: under the path knowledge-base/wiki, then for each page read its sources:
    • every id still ready: leave the page alone
    • some ids gone: rewrite the page from the sources that remain, plus any new document on the same topic
    • no id left: delete_file the page
  4. A ready id that no page cites is a new document. Read it, then add its facts to the existing pages they belong on and create pages for topics nothing covers yet. Add its id to the sources of every page you touched.
  5. Rewrite SCHEMA.md to match the pages now on disk.
  6. Tell the user which pages were created, rewritten and deleted, in a few lines.

Use write_file to create or fully rewrite a page and edit_file for a small change. Never delete SCHEMA.md.

To rebuild from scratch, delete_file every page in knowledge-base/wiki/, including SCHEMA.md, then compile.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Knowledge Base Wiki AI skill do?

Compile this profile's uploaded knowledge base documents into a wiki of markdown pages under knowledge-base/wiki/, and refresh it after documents are added, replaced or deleted. Use when the user asks to build, compile, update or rebuild the knowledge base wiki.

Why use Knowledge Base Wiki on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Knowledge Base Wiki is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Knowledge Base Wiki in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/ahmadrosid/nakama/tree/main/packages/core/src/skills/bundled/knowledge-base-wiki. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Knowledge Base Wiki?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Knowledge Base Wiki?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Knowledge Base Wiki with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Knowledge Base Wiki AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by ahmadrosid under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
