Use for anything about the workbench's own sessions, Screens, terminals and settings — opening a Screen, splitting it into several sessions or terminals, closing one; reading another conversation or the Claude Code / Codex in a terminal and messaging it; or acting on an "[OSD session]", "[OSD terminal]" or "[OSD screen]" reference the user pasted; or a setting the task needs changed (terminals, remote access, approval mode, proxy). All of it goes through the `osd` command.

  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • Self-contained

Everything the model needs lives in the instructions — no extra files to sync.

  • Open source

Published by ai4s-research on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Osd Agents AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/ai4s-research/open-science/tree/master/runtime/skills/core/osd-agents
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/ai4s-research/open-science.git /tmp/open-science
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/open-science/runtime/skills/core/osd-agents .claude/skills/osd-agents
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Osd Agents in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Osd Agents on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Osd Agents is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

The workbench: sessions, Screens, terminals

osd is on your PATH and already connected to this workbench. Three things are reachable through it:

  • Sessions: conversations, each with its own folder.
  • Screens: the tabs at the top of the app. Each one is split into panes, and each pane shows a session or a terminal.
  • Terminals: shells, some running Claude Code or Codex.

osd screen ls shows all of it at once, with the ids every other command takes. osd session find <words> finds a conversation by what was said in it.

Screens

osd screen new --sessions 6 --name "Six" # a new Screen, split evenly among 6 new conversations
osd screen new ses_a ses_b --terminals 1 # existing conversations and a terminal, side by side
osd screen new --terminals 3 --run claude # three terminals, each starting Claude Code
osd screen add g12 --new # one more pane: a new conversation (or a SESSION_ID, or --terminal)
osd screen add --here --new # a new conversation right of you, on the Screen you are on
osd screen show g12 # bring it up in the user's window
osd screen close g12 # close it; the conversations are kept

New conversations and terminals start in your folder unless you pass --directory DIR or --project NAME. A new Screen appears in the user's tab bar right away, and the user stays on the Screen they were looking at.

Reading and messaging

You haveRead itSend to it
a session ses_…osd session show <id> --last 2 (its last two turns)osd session send <id> "<message>" --wait
a terminal running Claude Code or Codexosd term read <id> (--turns 3 for more)osd term send <id> "<message>" --wait
a terminal running a plain shellosd term read <id> (last 40 lines; --lines N)osd term send <id> "<command>". This runs the command.

osd session wait <id> waits for a turn someone else started and prints its answer; osd session status <id> says whether one is running.

Read before you write: a message lands in the middle of someone else's work. osd term read on an agent says whether it is working; a message sent then waits in its queue and does not interrupt.

The other agent does not know who you are. Write every message so it stands alone: who you are, what you need, what to send back.

I'm the agent in the "Fold proteins" session. I need the path of the AlphaFold outputs you produced today. Reply with the path only.

When you tell the user about another conversation's files, give full paths. Their folder is not yours.

Limits

  • One conversation may send five messages in ten minutes. Past that, osd says to stop and ask the user. Tell the user what you have done and ask whether to go on.
  • A plain shell runs what you send as the user, outside your workspace and your approvals. Send it only commands the user asked for.
  • terminals are off means "Allow terminals" is off: ask for remote.terminal=on (see Settings below).

Settings

osd settings lists the app's settings and their values. You change none yourself: you ask the user, once, for everything the task needs, with why.

osd settings set remote.terminal=on --reason "To run Claude Code in a terminal next to me."

The user sees each change in a dialog and approves all, some or none; the command waits and prints what was applied. A decline is final: do not ask again unless the user brings it up. Ask only for what the task needs. API keys and sign-ins are not settings here; the user enters them in Settings.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Osd Agents AI skill do?

Use for anything about the workbench's own sessions, Screens, terminals and settings — opening a Screen, splitting it into several sessions or terminals, closing one; reading another conversation or the Claude Code / Codex in a terminal and messaging it; or acting on an "[OSD session]", "[OSD terminal]" or "[OSD screen]" reference the user pasted; or a setting the task needs changed (terminals, remote access, approval mode, proxy). All of it goes through the `osd` command.

Why use Osd Agents on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Osd Agents is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Osd Agents in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/ai4s-research/open-science/tree/master/runtime/skills/core/osd-agents. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Osd Agents?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Osd Agents?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Osd Agents with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Osd Agents AI skill free?

It is published on GitHub by ai4s-research. Check the repository for licensing terms. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
