MK-086 | Bundling popular products with new products

Purpose
This skill delivers: Evidence-based cross-sell bundles
Products occurring in the same transaction do not establish psychological motives; a product pairing does not automatically prove cross-selling effectiveness
Required inputs
Available raw records: popular/new product uses and compatibility, joint baskets or questions, standalone prices, costs, and inventory
Method Steps
- List the popular product and new product's jobs, compatibility, actual joint purchases/questions, standalone prices, costs, and stock. Popularity establishes demand for the existing item, not the new one
- A shared task or necessary sequence supported by customer remarks or usage records supports a bundle candidate. Unrelated tasks or incompatibility call for separate presentation or another pairing
- Compare total bundle contribution with the same customers' standalone baseline. Include concessions to people who would already buy both; the entire bundle revenue is not incremental
- Feasible costs and supply with unknown new-product acceptance support a bounded comparison preserving a standalone option. Request baskets and remarks rather than asking customers to diagnose whether the products fit
- Unbundle or replace the pairing if returns, forced-bundle abandonment, or displaced standalone sales worsen contribution. Evidence of a concrete complementary job restores candidacy within that condition
Calculation and Interpretation
Added bundle contribution = scenario total net revenue less product/variable fulfillment costs − same-group standalone baseline contribution − added promotion costs. Report new-item units separately; bundled sales do not prove full-price demand
Check example (hypothetical): the original main item contributes 300 and the bundle 340, adding 40. If the customer would also have bought the new item separately for another 100 contribution, baseline becomes 400 and the bundle loses 60; withdraw the added-value finding for that group
