  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 3 bundled files

Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

Published by blagoySimandov on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Ste100 Writer AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/blagoySimandov/asd-ste100-writer-skill/tree/main/skills/ste100-writer
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/blagoySimandov/asd-ste100-writer-skill.git /tmp/asd-ste100-writer-skill
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/asd-ste100-writer-skill/skills/ste100-writer .claude/skills/ste100-writer
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Ste100 Writer in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Ste100 Writer on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Ste100 Writer is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

ASD-STE100 Writer

What this skill does

This skill helps you to write technical documents in ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English (STE). STE is a controlled language. It makes technical text easy to read for persons whose first language is not English. It also makes machine translation more accurate.

STE has two parts:

  • A set of writing rules.
  • A dictionary of approved words.

Legal limit on the dictionary

ASD owns the copyright of the ASD-STE100 specification and of the full Dictionary. This skill does not contain the full Dictionary. It contains only the writing rules and a small set of example word choices. Get the full specification at no cost from https://asd-ste100.org.

If you are not sure that a word is approved, do one of these:

  • Use a word from references/word-choices.md.
  • Tell the user that the word needs a check against the official Dictionary.

Do not invent a claim that a word is approved.

Procedure

  1. Read the source text. Find the text type. Procedural text gives instructions. Descriptive text gives data.
  2. Read references/rules.md. Obey all the rules.
  3. Write the new text.
  4. Do a check with references/checklist.md.
  5. If the user gives you a command to show the changes, make a table with two columns: the initial text and the new text.

Core rules (short form)

Read references/rules.md for the full set.

  • Write short sentences. A procedural sentence has a maximum of 20 words. A descriptive sentence has a maximum of 25 words.
  • Write one instruction in one sentence. If a step has two actions, write two sentences or two steps.
  • Use the imperative for instructions. Example: "Remove the bolt."
  • Use the active voice. Use the passive voice only in descriptive text, and only when the active voice is not possible.
  • Use the approved meaning of a word. One word has one meaning.
  • Use one word for one thing. Do not use synonyms.
  • Use articles ("a", "an", "the") where possible.
  • Do not use a gerund (an "-ing" word) as a noun or as an adjective. A technical name is an exception.
  • Use a maximum of three nouns together in a noun cluster.
  • Write a maximum of six sentences in a paragraph of descriptive text.
  • Put the warning or the caution before the step that it applies to.
  • Start a warning or a caution with a command or with a clear condition.
  • Do not use a slash ("/"), but "and/or" is permitted.
  • Use simple verb tenses: the present tense, the past tense, and the future tense.
  • Do not remove words to make the text short. Keep the text clear.
  • Do not use em dashes

Warnings and cautions

Write a warning for a risk of injury or death. Write a caution for a risk of damage to equipment. Write the condition first, then the command.

Example of a warning:

WARNING: THE FUEL IS FLAMMABLE. KEEP FLAMES AND SPARKS AWAY FROM THE WORK AREA. FUEL FIRES CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH.

Quality check

Before you give the text to the user, do these checks:

  • Count the words in each sentence.
  • Find each passive verb. Change it to the active voice, if possible.
  • Find each "-ing" word. Change it, if the rules do not permit it.
  • Find each word from the "Do not use" table.
  • Make sure that each term is the same in all of the text.
  • Make sure that the technical data did not change.

Never change the technical content to obey a rule. If a rule and the technical accuracy have a conflict, tell the user.

Bundled files

The model reads these on demand while the skill is loaded. They are exposed as readable files and are never executed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Ste100 Writer AI skill do?

Write and rewrite technical documents in ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English. Use this skill when the user asks for STE, ASD-STE100, Simplified Technical English, simplified English, controlled language, or plain technical English. Also use it for aircraft, defense, machine, or industrial maintenance procedures, work instructions, warnings, cautions, safety notices, and manuals that must be easy to translate or easy to read for non-native readers.

Why use Ste100 Writer on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Ste100 Writer is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Ste100 Writer in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/blagoySimandov/asd-ste100-writer-skill/tree/main/skills/ste100-writer. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Ste100 Writer?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Ste100 Writer?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Ste100 Writer with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Ste100 Writer AI skill free?

It is published on GitHub by blagoySimandov. Check the repository for licensing terms. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
