be-ambitious

Turn a task or prompt into a deeper version of itself, not a bigger one. Before rewriting, say what a top professional in the field would do that the user isn't asking for, the rawest source material they would start from, the specific methods and tools they would use, and what (other than the user or the model) would show the result is right. Then rewrite the prompt to ask for exactly that. USE WHEN: /be-ambitious, "be ambitious", "make this prompt deeper", "what would an expert do here", "raise the bar on this task", "rewrite my prompt like a pro would ask it". NOT FOR: expanding scope, adding features, or general prompt polishing for tone or length.

  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • Self-contained

Everything the model needs lives in the instructions — no extra files to sync.

  • Open source

Published by DannyMac180 on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Be Ambitious AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/DannyMac180/skills/tree/main/be-ambitious
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/DannyMac180/skills.git /tmp/skills
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/skills/be-ambitious .claude/skills/be-ambitious
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Be Ambitious in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Be Ambitious on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Be Ambitious is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Be ambitious

Adapted from a prompt shared by Felix Rieseberg (Anthropic):

I want a deeper version of this task, not a bigger one. Before rewriting it: (1) say what a top professional in this field would do here that I'm not asking for; (2) name the rawest material they would start from instead of what has already been digested for me; (3) name the specific methods and tools they would use; (4) say what, other than you or me, would show the result is right. Then rewrite my prompt to ask for exactly that.

Input

The task is whatever follows /be-ambitious. If nothing follows, use the user's most recent request in this conversation. If there is none, ask for the task in one line and stop.

Deeper, not bigger

Keep the user's goal and scope. Depth means a higher standard for the same outcome: better sources, sharper methods, real verification. Do not add deliverables, features, or side quests. If a suggestion would make the job larger rather than better, drop it.

Steps

Name the field first (e.g. "investigative journalism", "SRE incident response", "clinical pharmacology"), then answer the four questions for that field. Be concrete: name the actual thing, not the category.

  1. What a top professional would do that wasn't asked for. The two or three moves that separate expert work from competent work here, such as stating the decision the work serves, checking base rates, reproducing before fixing, or writing the counter-argument.
  2. The rawest material. The primary sources they would start from instead of summaries: the dataset, not the chart; the filing, not the article; the logs and the code, not the bug report; the paper's methods section, not the abstract. Say where it lives if you know.
  3. Specific methods and tools. Named techniques, instruments, libraries, commands, or frameworks, and why each fits this task.
  4. What, other than the user or the model, would show it is right. An external check: a test suite or benchmark, a reproduction, ground-truth data, a known answer to compare against, a measurement, a domain expert or reviewer, a real user's behavior. Say what result would count as a pass and what would count as a failure.

If you don't know something in the field well enough to answer, say so rather than inventing a source or tool.

Rewrite

Then write the rewritten prompt in a single fenced block the user can copy. It should ask for exactly what the four answers describe: start from the raw material, use the named methods, and end with the external check and its pass criterion. Keep it about as long as it needs to be, and in the user's voice.

Stop after the rewrite. Offer in one line to run it now; don't start the task unless the user says so.

Frequently asked questions

Why use Be Ambitious on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Be Ambitious is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Be Ambitious in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/DannyMac180/skills/tree/main/be-ambitious. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Be Ambitious?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Be Ambitious?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Be Ambitious with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Be Ambitious AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by DannyMac180 under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
