  • Markdown instructions

    A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

    AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 1 bundled files

    Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

    Published by dleerdefi on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Project Setup AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/dleerdefi/claude-code-construction/tree/main/skills/project-setup
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/dleerdefi/claude-code-construction.git /tmp/claude-code-construction
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/claude-code-construction/skills/project-setup .claude/skills/project-setup
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Project Setup in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Project Setup on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Project Setup is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

    The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

    Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Project Setup

Set up a construction project directory for use with Claude Code construction skills. Without AgentCM, this skill inventories all files, classifies construction document types, and appends construction-specific context to the project's CLAUDE.md. With AgentCM, which has already indexed the folder and keeps the one map of it in CLAUDE.md, it only reports AgentCM's orientation (Step 1).

Run this after /init has created the base CLAUDE.md.

Pipeline Position

/init (built-in) → THIS SKILL → /spec-splitter, /sheet-splitter → /submittal-log-generator

Runs once per project. Identifies which Builder skills should run next.

Workflow

Project Setup Progress:
- [ ] Step 1: Detect operational mode
- [ ] Step 2: Inventory and classify files
- [ ] Step 3: Present summary and recommend next actions
- [ ] Step 4: Amend project CLAUDE.md

Step 1: Detect Operational Mode

Check for AgentCM: .construction/project.yaml at the project root.

If present (AgentCM mode), AgentCM has indexed the folder and written its own navigation block into CLAUDE.md. Report its orientation and stop:

  1. Say that the construction plugin is installed, with its version from ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}/.claude-plugin/plugin.json. Read contract_version in .construction/project.yaml; if it is missing (AgentCM older than contract 1) or above 1, say which.
  2. Read .construction/INDEX.md. If it is missing, say that AgentCM has not written its index for this folder yet, and stop. Otherwise report, from its sections:
    • Drawing sheets: how many, by discipline, and how many are still under "Pages not yet named"; any sheet whose Text is partial, pending or failed
    • Specification sections: how many, by division; and every manual under "Spec manuals not read", with its reason (/construction:spec-splitter splits and extracts those, and only those)
    • Schedules and legends: how many, by kind
    • Rooms: how many are known and how they were found, as INDEX.md states it
  3. If .construction/pending.tsv exists, list what it names, reading its columns by their header names: sheets queued for a refresh, sheets whose refresh failed (with the reason), and files edited outside AgentCM (edited, the file in file), which AgentCM no longer refreshes. Their content may be out of date or wrong.

Then stop. In AgentCM mode this skill inventories no files, recommends no splitting and does not touch CLAUDE.md.

If absent (Flat File mode): Continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Inventory and Classify Files

Scan the project directory. No vision calls — use filename and folder pattern matching only.

Classification rules:

Document TypeDetection Pattern
Drawing setsPDFs in drawings/, plans/, or root with discipline prefixes (A-, S-, M-, E-, P-, C-, L-). PDFs > 2MB with keywords: "plan", "drawing", "bid set", "dwg".
SpecificationsFolders named Specifications/, specs/, 02 - Specifications/. PDFs with "project manual", "spec", "volume". CSI section number patterns in filenames.
SchedulesExcel/CSV files with "schedule", "CPM", "lookahead", "milestone" in name.
Submittal logExcel files with "submittal" in name, typically in Submittals/ or 06 - Submittals/.
RFI logExcel files with "RFI" in name, typically in RFIs/ or logs folder.
Change ordersExcel/PDF files with "change order", "CO", "PCO" in name.
OtherCorrespondence, photos, reports, geotechnical, environmental.

Also check for existing indexes:

  • sheet_index.yaml → drawings already indexed
  • spec_index.yaml → specs already split
  • .construction/skills/spec_text/manifest.json → spec text already extracted (an older version's .construction/spec_text/ counts too: copy it to .construction/skills/spec_text/ and leave the old one as it is)

Step 3: Present Summary and Recommend Next Actions

Report what was found:

## Project Summary
- Drawing sets: {count} PDFs ({disciplines found})
- Specifications: {bound manual / split sections / not found}
- Schedules: {list}
- Registers: {RFI log, submittal log, CO log — found or not found}
- Other: {count} files

## Recommended Next Actions

Recommendations by mode:

ConditionRecommendation
Bound spec manual found, not yet split"Run /spec-splitter to split the project manual into individual sections and extract searchable text."
Bound drawing set found"Run /sheet-splitter to split the drawing set into individual sheet PDFs and identify sheet numbers."
Specs already split but no text extracted"Run /spec-splitter — specs are split but text extraction hasn't been done yet."
Submittal log needed"Run /submittal-log-generator after spec text is available."
Specs split and text extracted"Would you like to generate a submittal log from the specification sections? Run /submittal-log-generator."

Step 4: Amend Project CLAUDE.md

Flat-file mode only. Append construction-specific context to the project root's CLAUDE.md (the file created by /init). Do NOT modify any file inside the construction plugin.

Append format:

markdown
## Construction Project Context

### Document Locations
- Drawing set: {path} ({N} sheets, disciplines: {list})
- Specifications: {path} ({N} sections or "bound manual, not yet split")
- Schedule: {path or "not found"}
- RFI log: {path or "not found"}
- Submittal log: {path or "not found"}

### Status
- Operational mode: Flat File
- Sheets indexed: {yes/no}
- Specs split: {yes/no}
- Spec text extracted: {yes/no}

### Working With These Documents
- Load the `construction:construction-guide` skill before reading drawings, specs or other project documents.
- Never read construction PDFs directly; rasterize pages to PNG first (see the guide).

Only append — never overwrite existing CLAUDE.md content.

What This Skill Does NOT Do

  • Does not split PDFs — recommends /spec-splitter and /sheet-splitter instead
  • Does not use vision — all classification is filename/folder pattern matching
  • Does not create AgentCM's .construction/project.yaml or its data tree — that's AgentCM's job (the plugin's own .construction/skills/ is created by the skills that write there)
  • Does not write a second map in an AgentCM project — AgentCM's block in CLAUDE.md is the one source of navigation there
  • Does not replace /init — /init creates the base CLAUDE.md, this skill enriches it

Scripts

This skill does not execute any external scripts.

Bundled files

The model reads these on demand while the skill is loaded. They are exposed as readable files and are never executed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Project Setup AI skill do?

Set up a construction project — inventories files, classifies drawings/specs/schedules/registers and appends construction context to CLAUDE.md; in an AgentCM project, prints AgentCM's orientation instead. Triggers: 'set up project', 'construction setup', 'classify documents'.

Why use Project Setup on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Project Setup is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Project Setup in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/dleerdefi/claude-code-construction/tree/main/skills/project-setup. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Project Setup?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Project Setup?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Project Setup with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Project Setup AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by dleerdefi under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
