  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 1 bundled files

Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

Published by glifxyz on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the App Icons And Logos AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/glifxyz/glif-mcp-server/tree/main/skills/app-icons-and-logos
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/glifxyz/glif-mcp-server.git /tmp/glif-mcp-server
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/glif-mcp-server/skills/app-icons-and-logos .claude/skills/app-icons-and-logos
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable App Icons And Logos in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads App Icons And Logos on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so App Icons And Logos is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Create a mark the user picks, then turn it into every file the app needs. The user's explicit instructions come first, within host safety rules.

1. Get the brief

Ask only for what's missing:

  • product name and one line on what it does
  • feel: playful, serious, technical, warm...
  • colors to use or avoid
  • any existing logo, sketch, screenshot or site URL to build on (upload files with upload_file)

If the user already has a logo, use it. Don't redesign it unless asked.

2. Explore, then let the user pick

A request for a logo or icon is approval to spend credits on it. Send one compose_project call asking for 4 clearly different concepts:

  • 1:1, at least 1024×1024, centered with even padding
  • flat, bold shapes that still read at 32 px and in one color
  • plain background, no mockups, no extra text unless it's a wordmark

Show the concepts and stop. The user picks. Never choose for them.

3. Make the finals

Continue the same project by passing its project_id to compose_project. Ask for the chosen concept as:

  • an SVG, plus a 2048×2048 transparent PNG master
  • one-color versions in black and white
  • an icon-only square mark, if the concept has a wordmark
  • an opaque square version on the brand background color, for app icons

Glif can make SVG. If a result comes back raster-only, a simple flat mark can be traced locally with vtracer or potrace. Check the trace against the PNG.

For wordmarks, check the spelling letter by letter. A crisper option is to set the name in a real font next to the mark, in SVG or HTML.

4. Export the sizes

Download the finals into the repo, for example assets/brand/, with curl -fsSL "<media url>" -o <path>. Make the sizes locally from the master with whatever is installed: sharp, magick, sips or npx png-to-ico. Never upscale.

Web head kit (in public/ or the framework's static folder):

FileSizeNotes
favicon.ico16, 32, 48multi-size ICO
favicon.svgvectorfrom the SVG master
apple-touch-icon.png180×180opaque, with padding
icon-192.png, icon-512.png192, 512listed in site.webmanifest
icon-maskable-512.png512×512mark inside the center 80% circle, "purpose": "maskable"

Add the <link rel="icon">, apple-touch-icon and manifest tags plus <meta name="theme-color">. Look at the favicon at 16 px. If the mark turns to mush, use a simpler glyph or a single letter.

iOS: one 1024×1024 PNG with no transparency and square corners. iOS rounds the corners itself.

Android: adaptive icon with a foreground and a background layer, each 432×432 px at xxxhdpi. Keep the mark inside the center 264 px. The Play Store listing also needs a 512×512 PNG.

5. Optional extras

Offer these after the logo is approved. Each is a separate request.

  • Logo animation: a 2 to 4 second reveal or burst, MP4 with a transparent or brand-color background, for splash screens and video intros.
  • Restyle: the same mark as glossy 3D, Y2K chrome or another treatment, on a transparent background.
  • Brand kit: palette with hex values, font pairing, usage rules and a one-page sheet. Glif can build it from the new logo, or from the user's existing site by its URL. Save the values as CSS variables or Tailwind theme tokens too.
  • Mascot: a character sheet with front, side and back views plus expressions, so the mascot looks the same everywhere.

6. Custom icon sets

For standard UI icons like settings, search or close, use the project's icon library (Lucide, Heroicons and so on) or hand-written SVG. Don't spend credits on them.

For illustrated icons, ask for the whole set in one image so the style matches: a grid of 6 to 12 icons, same stroke weight and palette, plain background. Then ask for each one as SVG or as a 256×256 transparent PNG, named by meaning (icon-invoices.svg). Emoji and stickers for Slack or Discord are 128×128 transparent PNGs.

7. Finish

Share the projectUrl. List every file you wrote and the tags you added. Don't change the user's existing brand files unless they asked.

Bundled files

The model reads these on demand while the skill is loaded. They are exposed as readable files and are never executed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the App Icons And Logos AI skill do?

Design a logo, app icon, favicon set, icon set or brand kit with Glif for an app or site you are building, then export every size and wire it into the code. Use when: "help me design a logo", "make a logo", "design an app icon", "we need a favicon", "PWA icon", "iOS app icon", "Android adaptive icon", "SVG logo", "custom icon set", "illustrated icons for these features", "emoji or sticker pack", "Discord emoji", "mascot", "animate our logo", "logo intro", "make the logo glossy 3D", "brand kit", "visual identity", "brand guidelines", "make it look like our site". NOT for: page images or text...

Why use App Icons And Logos on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. App Icons And Logos is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install App Icons And Logos in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/glifxyz/glif-mcp-server/tree/main/skills/app-icons-and-logos. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use App Icons And Logos?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with App Icons And Logos?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use App Icons And Logos with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the App Icons And Logos AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by glifxyz under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
