Use when working in this project — adding tools, editing the agent, running, evaluating, serving or deploying it — or when guidance mentions ADK, LlmAgent, google.adk, adk web, or an ADK runner. This project is a Claude Agent SDK agent scaffolded by agents-cli, so ADK-specific instructions do not apply.

  • Markdown instructions

    A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

    AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 3 bundled files

    Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

    Published by google on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Agents Cli Claude AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/google/agents-cli/tree/main/extensions/claude/template/.agents/skills/agents-cli-claude
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/google/agents-cli.git /tmp/agents-cli
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/agents-cli/extensions/claude/template/.agents/skills/agents-cli-claude .claude/skills/agents-cli-claude
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Agents Cli Claude in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Agents Cli Claude on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Agents Cli Claude is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

    The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

    Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Claude Agent SDK project (agents-cli)

The agent is a ClaudeAgentOptions exported as root_agent from app/agent.py. There is no google.adk dependency and no ADK runner. Other google-agents-cli-* skills assume ADK; where they describe the agent itself, this skill wins.

Experimental. Deploy to agent_runtime (limits: references/claude.md) or cloud_run. The model runs on Claude on Gemini platform and must be enabled in Model Garden.

What ADK guidance maps to here

ADK guidanceThis project
LlmAgent, AgentClaudeAgentOptions(model=..., system_prompt=..., ...) assigned to root_agent
Agent(name=...)AGENT_NAME in app/app_utils/settings.py (ClaudeAgentOptions has no name); keep it equal to create_params.root_agent_name in agents-cli-manifest.yaml
google.adk.tools, FunctionTool@tool(...) async functions, served by create_sdk_mcp_server and passed in mcp_servers
adk web, agents-cli playgroundUnavailable (no SDK dev UI). Use agents-cli run, or uv run uvicorn app.fast_api_app:app --port 8080
ADK runner behind agents-cli runagents-cli run runs root_agent in process
agents-cli eval dataset synthesize, eval optimizeUnavailable: both drive the agent through ADK. The command says so and exits
agents-cli eval generate --url (traces from a served agent)Unavailable: the server speaks A2A, not ADK's /run_sse. eval generate runs root_agent in process; the command refuses --url
ADK sessionsClaude sessions, one per A2A conversation; scaffold with --session-type cloud_sql to keep them across instances

The contract

  • app/agent.py exports root_agent: ClaudeAgentOptions. Only it changes when you change the agent.
  • app/app_utils/claude.py runs it. Leave app/app_utils/ alone.
  • The served agent's own CLAUDE.md, .claude/ and .mcp.json go in agent_config/.
  • app/fast_api_app.py exposes app. Every deployment target runs uvicorn app.fast_api_app:app.

Adding a tool

python
@tool("lookup_order", "Look up an order by id.", {"order_id": str})
async def lookup_order(args: dict[str, Any]) -> dict[str, Any]:
    return {"content": [{"type": "text", "text": f"Order {args['order_id']}: shipped"}]}

server = create_sdk_mcp_server(name="orders", tools=[lookup_order])

root_agent = ClaudeAgentOptions(
    ...,
    mcp_servers={"orders": server},
    tools=[],  # no built-in Claude Code tools
    allowed_tools=["mcp__orders__lookup_order"],  # mcp__<server>__<tool>
)

A tool missing from allowed_tools is not available to the agent. Subagents (agents= or agent_config/.claude/agents/) run through the built-in Agent tool: add "Agent" to both tools and allowed_tools. Built-in tools (WebFetch, WebSearch, Read, Bash, ...) go in both tools and allowed_tools; keep Bash and file-editing tools out of a served agent unless the user asks.

Commands

bash
agents-cli install                  # uv sync
agents-cli run "hello" # run root_agent in process; prints a session id
agents-cli run "and?" --session-id <id>   # continue that conversation
agents-cli eval generate --dataset tests/eval/datasets/basic-dataset.json -o tests/eval/output/
agents-cli eval grade --traces tests/eval/output/<dataset>.json --config tests/eval/eval_config.yaml
agents-cli deploy
agents-cli scaffold enhance -d cloud_run --cicd-runner github_actions   # add infra later

run, eval generate, publish gemini, playground, eval dataset and eval optimize are overridden by agents-cli-extension.yaml at the project root. Prefix any command with AGENTS_CLI_DISABLE_OVERRIDES=1 to reach the built-in instead.

Serving

A2A: JSON-RPC at POST /a2a/app, card at /a2a/app/.well-known/agent-card.json, health at /health; over A2A, text streams as it is generated. On Agent Runtime, also :query and :streamQuery (new sessions and turns), which agents-cli run --mode adk and an ingress Agent Gateway use. See references/claude.md for sessions, telemetry and deployment.

Common mistakes

  • Renaming root_agent or app, which breaks run, eval and deploy.
  • Leaving tools unset: the agent then gets every built-in Claude Code tool.
  • Using a model id that is not enabled on Gemini platform for the project.
  • Reaching for eval dataset synthesize or eval optimize: they need ADK. Write cases into tests/eval/datasets/ and use eval generate + eval grade.
  • Expecting /run_sse or ADK's REST session routes; this server serves A2A and Agent Runtime's :query / :streamQuery.

References

  • references/claude.md — how a turn runs, model access, project settings, sessions, calling other agents, telemetry and logs.

Bundled files

The model reads these on demand while the skill is loaded. They are exposed as readable files and are never executed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Agents Cli Claude AI skill do?

Use when working in this project — adding tools, editing the agent, running, evaluating, serving or deploying it — or when guidance mentions ADK, LlmAgent, google.adk, adk web, or an ADK runner. This project is a Claude Agent SDK agent scaffolded by agents-cli, so ADK-specific instructions do not apply.

Why use Agents Cli Claude on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Agents Cli Claude is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Agents Cli Claude in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/google/agents-cli/tree/main/extensions/claude/template/.agents/skills/agents-cli-claude. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Agents Cli Claude?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Agents Cli Claude?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Agents Cli Claude with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Agents Cli Claude AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by google under the Apache-2.0 license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
