  • Markdown instructions

    A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

    AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 14 bundled files

    Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

    Published by hookdeck on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Absorb Lms Webhooks AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/hookdeck/webhook-skills/tree/main/skills/absorb-lms-webhooks
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/hookdeck/webhook-skills.git /tmp/webhook-skills
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/webhook-skills/skills/absorb-lms-webhooks .claude/skills/absorb-lms-webhooks
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Absorb Lms Webhooks in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Absorb Lms Webhooks on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Absorb Lms Webhooks is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

    The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

    Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Absorb LMS Webhooks

Absorb LMS is a learning management system. Its webhooks send a lean JSON notification to your URL when something happens in the LMS: a user is created, a course is completed, a certificate is awarded. Each request carries an absorb-signature header, an HMAC-SHA256 of the raw request body keyed with the webhook's Secret Key.

When to Use This Skill

  • How do I receive Absorb LMS webhooks?
  • How do I verify the absorb-signature header?
  • Why does the Test Webhook button fail signature verification?
  • How do I handle UserCreated, CertificateAwarded or EnrollmentCompletedbyAdmin events?
  • Why is my Absorb LMS webhook signature verification failing?

Verification (core)

absorb-signature is the bare lowercase hex HMAC-SHA256 of the raw request body: no prefix, no timestamp. The key is the Secret Key shown on the saved webhook, used as a UTF-8 string (not hex- or base64-decoded). Check the header is exactly 64 hex characters before decoding, because Buffer.from(x, 'hex') silently truncates invalid input.

javascript
const crypto = require('crypto');

function verifyAbsorbSignature(rawBody, signature, secret = process.env.ABSORB_WEBHOOK_SECRET) {
  if (!secret || typeof signature !== 'string') return false;
  if (!/^[0-9a-f]{64}$/i.test(signature)) return false; // also guards the hex decode
  const expected = crypto.createHmac('sha256', secret).update(rawBody).digest();
  return crypto.timingSafeEqual(expected, Buffer.from(signature, 'hex'));
}

// rawBody: Buffer from express.raw({ type: '*/*' }); signature: req.headers['absorb-signature']

Return 401 when this fails, 400 for a body that isn't a JSON object, and 200 once handled. In Python use hmac.compare_digest on bytes (encode both sides) so a non-ASCII header gives 401, not 500. Details in references/verification.md.

For complete handlers with tests, see examples/express/, examples/nextjs/, examples/fastapi/.

Setup and Test Events

Create the webhook in the Admin Experience under Account > Client Settings > New Webhook, choose the events, enter your URL and save. The Secret Key is generated only after the webhook is saved; reopen it to copy the key into ABSORB_WEBHOOK_SECRET. Full steps in references/setup.md.

Hookdeck setup: Absorb's Test Webhook button sends a random signature, so test events fail verification. Real deliveries are signed with the Secret Key. When you use an Absorb LMS source in Hookdeck, expect the Test Webhook request to be rejected and trigger a real event in a sandbox portal (for example create a user) to check your setup end to end.

Payload and Event Types

The payload is deliberately lean: it names the event and carries IDs (the learner's User ID, the Admin ID for admin events, and the Client ID and Correlation ID of the transaction). Call the Absorb Integration API for the full record. Dispatch on eventName, which is the event's display name with the spaces removed.

eventNameTriggered When
UserCreatedAn admin creates a user
OnlineCourseActivatedAn online course is activated
EnrollmentCompletedbyAdminAn admin completes an enrollment
EnrollmentCompletedbyLearnerA learner completes an enrollment
CertificateAwardedA certificate is awarded
CompetencyAwardedA competency is awarded
CourseCreditsAwardedCourse credits are awarded
UserEnrolledinCoursebyAdmin / UserEnrolledinCoursebyLearnerA user is enrolled in a course

Other events (departments, groups, curriculums, ILC courses, bundles, sessions, learning paths) are listed in references/overview.md.

Recommended: webhook-handler-patterns

We recommend installing the webhook-handler-patterns skill alongside this one for handler sequence, idempotency, error handling, and retry logic. Key references (open on GitHub):

  • Handler sequence — Verify first, parse second, handle idempotently third
  • Idempotency — Absorb retries a failed delivery twice automatically, and an admin can retry it manually up to five times, so deduplicate
  • Error handling — Return codes, logging, dead letter queues
  • Retry logic — Provider retry schedules, backoff patterns

Frequently asked questions

What does the Absorb Lms Webhooks AI skill do?

Receive and verify Absorb LMS webhooks. Use when setting up an Absorb LMS webhook endpoint, verifying the absorb-signature header (HMAC-SHA256 of the raw body), debugging signature failures on Test Webhook requests, or handling events like UserCreated, CertificateAwarded and EnrollmentCompletedbyAdmin.

Why use Absorb Lms Webhooks on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Absorb Lms Webhooks is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Absorb Lms Webhooks in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/hookdeck/webhook-skills/tree/main/skills/absorb-lms-webhooks. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Absorb Lms Webhooks?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Absorb Lms Webhooks?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Absorb Lms Webhooks with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Absorb Lms Webhooks AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by hookdeck under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
