  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • Self-contained

Everything the model needs lives in the instructions — no extra files to sync.

  • Open source

Published by JasonxzWen on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Openspec Archive Change AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/JasonxzWen/harness-hub.git /tmp/harness-hub
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/harness-hub/skills/openspec-archive-change .claude/skills/openspec-archive-change
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Openspec Archive Change in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Openspec Archive Change on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Openspec Archive Change is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Archive a completed change in the experimental workflow.

Input: Optionally specify a change name. If omitted, check if it can be inferred from conversation context. If vague or ambiguous you MUST prompt for available changes.

Steps

  1. If no change name provided, prompt for selection

Run openspec list --json to get available changes. Use the ask the user directly in the conversation to let the user select.

Show only active changes (not already archived). Include the schema used for each change if available.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT guess or auto-select a change. Always let the user choose.

  2. Check artifact completion status

Run openspec status --change "<name>" --json to check artifact completion.

    Parse the JSON to understand:

    • schemaName: The workflow being used
    • artifacts: List of artifacts with their status (done or other)

If any artifacts are not done:

    • Display warning listing incomplete artifacts
    • Use ask the user directly in the conversation to confirm user wants to proceed
    • Proceed if user confirms
  3. Check task completion status

Read the tasks file (typically tasks.md) to check for incomplete tasks.

    Count tasks marked with - [ ] (incomplete) vs - [x] (complete).

    If incomplete tasks found:

    • Display warning showing count of incomplete tasks
    • Use ask the user directly in the conversation to confirm user wants to proceed
    • Proceed if user confirms

If no tasks file exists: Proceed without task-related warning.

  4. Assess delta spec sync state

Check for delta specs at openspec/changes/<name>/specs/. If none exist, proceed without sync prompt.

    If delta specs exist:

    • Compare each delta spec with its corresponding main spec at openspec/specs/<capability>/spec.md
    • Determine what changes would be applied (adds, modifications, removals, renames)
    • Show a combined summary before prompting

    Prompt options:

    • If changes needed: "Sync now (recommended)", "Archive without syncing"
    • If already synced: "Archive now", "Sync anyway", "Cancel"

If the user chooses sync, perform the sync in the current workflow or ask the active parent workflow to assign a bounded helper scope. Do not invoke host-specific agent tools from this skill. Proceed to archive only after the selected sync path is complete or explicitly skipped.

  5. Perform the archive

Create the archive directory if it doesn't exist:

    bash
    mkdir -p openspec/changes/archive

Generate target name using current date: YYYY-MM-DD-<change-name>

    Check if target already exists:

    • If yes: Fail with error, suggest renaming existing archive or using different date
    • If no: Move the change directory to archive
    bash
    mv openspec/changes/<name> openspec/changes/archive/YYYY-MM-DD-<name>
  6. Display summary

    Show archive completion summary including:

    • Change name
    • Schema that was used
    • Archive location
    • Whether specs were synced (if applicable)
    • Note about any warnings (incomplete artifacts/tasks)

Output On Success

## Archive Complete

**Change:** <change-name>
**Schema:** <schema-name>
**Archived to:** openspec/changes/archive/YYYY-MM-DD-<name>/
**Specs:** Synced to main specs (or "No delta specs" or "Sync skipped")

All artifacts complete. All tasks complete.

Guardrails

  • Always prompt for change selection if not provided
  • Use artifact graph (openspec status --json) for completion checking
  • Don't block archive on warnings - just inform and confirm
  • Preserve .openspec.yaml when moving to archive (it moves with the directory)
  • Show clear summary of what happened
  • If sync is requested, use openspec-sync-specs approach (agent-driven)
  • If delta specs exist, always run the sync assessment and show the combined summary before prompting

Frequently asked questions

What does the Openspec Archive Change AI skill do?

Load when a task needs to archive a completed OpenSpec change after implementation and spec sync decisions are resolved.

Why use Openspec Archive Change on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Openspec Archive Change is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Openspec Archive Change in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/JasonxzWen/harness-hub/tree/main/skills/openspec-archive-change. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Openspec Archive Change?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Openspec Archive Change?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Openspec Archive Change with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Openspec Archive Change AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by JasonxzWen under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
