  • Markdown instructions

    A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

    AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 1 bundled files

    Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

    Published by khadinakbarlabs on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Add App Icon Launch Screen AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/khadinakbarlabs/expo-mobile-app-builder/tree/main/skills/add-app-icon-launch-screen
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/khadinakbarlabs/expo-mobile-app-builder.git /tmp/expo-mobile-app-builder
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/expo-mobile-app-builder/skills/add-app-icon-launch-screen .claude/skills/add-app-icon-launch-screen
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Add App Icon Launch Screen in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Add App Icon Launch Screen on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Add App Icon Launch Screen is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

    The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

    Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Add App Icon + Launch Screen

The 5-second decision asset. Get this right or installs drop 30%.

App Icon

Required size

1024×1024 PNG, no transparency, no rounded corners (Apple rounds them).

Where to put it (Expo)

Save to assets/icon.png (1024×1024). Then in app.json:

json
{
  "expo": {
    "icon": "./assets/icon.png",
    "ios": {
      "icon": "./assets/icon.png"
    }
  }
}

Expo / EAS auto-generates all required sizes (29×29 through 1024×1024) at build time.

Design rules

  • No text in the icon (except brand name in some cases — but text reads as small at 60×60)
  • High contrast background
  • Single subject, centered
  • Recognizable at 60×60 (the home screen size)
  • Distinctive silhouette (helps users find on home screen)

Tools to generate

  • Figma → 1024×1024 frame, export PNG
  • Sketch → similar
  • icon.kitchen → free online generator
  • Bakery (Mac app) → preview on device mockup
  • Your designer in Figma + iOS App Icon template

Variants for iOS 18+ (optional)

  • Dark mode icon (1024×1024 PNG, transparent OK)
  • Tinted icon (1024×1024 grayscale PNG, transparent OK)

In app.json:

json
{
  "expo": {
    "ios": {
      "icon": {
        "light": "./assets/icon.png",
        "dark": "./assets/icon-dark.png",
        "tinted": "./assets/icon-tinted.png"
      }
    }
  }
}

Launch Screen (Splash)

What it is

The first screen shown while your app loads. Should be FAST (<200ms perceived).

Required (Expo)

A storyboard-based launch screen, not a static image (Apple requires storyboard since iOS 14).

In app.json:

json
{
  "expo": {
    "splash": {
      "image": "./assets/splash.png",
      "resizeMode": "contain",
      "backgroundColor": "#ffffff"
    },
    "ios": {
      "splash": {
        "image": "./assets/splash.png",
        "tabletImage": "./assets/splash-ipad.png",
        "resizeMode": "contain",
        "backgroundColor": "#ffffff"
      }
    }
  }
}

Design rules

  • Match your app's first screen (so it feels seamless when transitioning)
  • No text ("Loading..." is unprofessional)
  • No animations (Apple's splash is static)
  • Background color matches your app's background

Image specs

  • 2732×2732 PNG (covers all device sizes via storyboard)
  • Center your logo in middle (will be cropped on different aspect ratios)
  • Safe area: keep important content within center 60%

SF Symbols (system icons in your UI)

Use Apple's free icon library instead of bundling custom icons.

bash
pnpm add expo-symbols
tsx
import { SymbolView } from 'expo-symbols';

<SymbolView name="heart.fill" tintColor="red" size={24} />

Browse all 5,000+ icons in SF Symbols app (Mac App Store, free).

Benefits:

  • Zero bundle weight
  • Auto-adapts to system dark mode
  • Native rendering
  • Updated across iOS versions automatically

Adaptive icon for Dynamic Island / Live Activities

Different icon variant shown in:

  • Dynamic Island (smaller, monochrome)
  • Live Activities (small color)

Apple auto-generates from your main icon, but for premium look:

  • Provide tinted variant
  • Provide dark variant

Common gotchas

  • Icon transparency = Apple rejects (fill the corners, they'll round)
  • Icon text smaller than ~60px = unreadable
  • Splash screen with text = looks broken on rotate
  • Icon doesn't match marketing site = inconsistent brand
  • Forgetting iPad version = iPad version uses iPhone icon stretched (ugly)

Iterate / test

After uploading to TestFlight:

  1. Install on real device
  2. Look at home screen — does it stand out?
  3. Look at search results in Spotlight
  4. Look in Settings -> Apps list (icon size differs)
  5. Look at icon in Notification banner

If any look bad, redesign and re-submit.

Pair with

  • apply-hig for full HIG compliance
  • apply-liquid-glass for iOS 26 visual treatment
  • design-screenshots (different — App Store screenshots, not icon)

Bundled files

The model reads these on demand while the skill is loaded. They are exposed as readable files and are never executed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Add App Icon Launch Screen AI skill do?

Generate iOS app icon (all sizes), launch screen, and SF Symbols configuration for an Expo app. Use when the user says 'app icon', 'launch screen', 'splash screen', 'icon generator', 'ios icon sizes', 'ios splash'.

Why use Add App Icon Launch Screen on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Add App Icon Launch Screen is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Add App Icon Launch Screen in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/khadinakbarlabs/expo-mobile-app-builder/tree/main/skills/add-app-icon-launch-screen. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Add App Icon Launch Screen?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Add App Icon Launch Screen?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Add App Icon Launch Screen with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Add App Icon Launch Screen AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by khadinakbarlabs under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
