  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 5 bundled files

Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

Published by kipperacademy on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Skillpper Saver AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/kipperacademy/skillpper/tree/main/skillpper-saver
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/kipperacademy/skillpper.git /tmp/skillpper
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/skillpper/skillpper-saver .claude/skills/skillpper-saver
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Skillpper Saver in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Skillpper Saver on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Skillpper Saver is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Skillpper Saver 🐿️⚡

A governance and aggressive optimization skill designed to reduce token consumption, operating costs, and context window bloating for AI coding agents.

This skill supports macOS, Linux, and Windows. See the Cross-Platform Guide for shell and path handling.

Based on empirical development metrics: the primary drivers of runaway token consumption are not high-end models themselves, but rather marathon sessions (threads running for tens of hours), repetitive re-reading of identical files, unnecessary screenshots during web automation, and dumping massive terminal logs directly into the context window.

🎯 When to Use

Activate this skill when:

  • The user asks to "save tokens", "reduce cost", "run in saver mode", "skillpper saver", "muri saver", or /saver.
  • The developer operates under strict API budgets or session window rate limits (e.g., 5-hour rolling quotas or weekly caps).
  • The task requires deep exploration of large codebases, complex debugging, or multi-step browser QA.

⚙️ Universal Execution Rules

1. Direct Responses Without Slop

  • Zero Preamble: Never repeat the user's prompt or provide conversational filler ("Sure thing!", "I would be happy to help with that...").
  • Concise Summaries: Limit completion responses to 1–2 actionable sentences highlighting what was changed or the immediate next step.
  • No Code Mirroring: Never restate large blocks of unchanged code. Only display concise git diffs or edited segments.

2. Surgical File Reading

  • Grep/Glob First: Never read entire files to find a single declaration or symbol. Locate the exact line range first using targeted search.
  • Partial Reads: For files exceeding 100 lines, use line slicing (StartLine/EndLine or offset/limit) instead of loading the entire content.
  • Never Re-read: Never re-read a file already loaded in the current session unless it was modified externally or by an edit tool. Trust what is already present in context.

3. Context Auto-Monitoring & Cutoff Triggers

  • 150k Accumulated Context Threshold: When a session reaches 2+ of the following signals, proactively suggest /compact or /clear with a 1-line handoff:
    • 15+ tool calls executed in the current thread.
    • Large build, compilation, or test suites logged in history.
    • Multiple large source files loaded into context.
    • Session wall-time exceeds 30 minutes with heavy tool usage.
  • Idle Inactivity: If a session remains inactive for over 1 hour, the prompt cache has expired. Summarize and start a fresh session to avoid re-paying full un-cached prompt tokens.

4. Subagent Governance

  • Avoid Spurious Subagents: Never spawn subagents for small, sequential tasks. A new subagent incurs a fixed cost by re-deriving the entire project context from scratch.
  • Lightweight Delegation: When delegating purely mechanical or broad scanning tasks, explicitly configure subagents to use lightweight models (haiku, flash, or flash_lite).

5. Tool Loop Brake

  • Anti-Loop Safety: If a tool call or terminal command fails twice with the identical error, do not retry a third time blindly. Stop immediately, diagnose the root cause, or ask for developer guidance.

6. Browser Automation (Rule: Text > Screenshots)

  • Text Extraction First: To verify navigation, clicks, or loaded content, always extract DOM text (rendered HTML, page headings, or accessibility tree).
  • Strict Visual Criteria: Only take screenshots when the task is inherently visual (e.g., layout reviews, CSS styling checks, responsive viewports). Screenshots persist indefinitely in conversational history and are never evicted by prompt caching, inflating every subsequent turn.

7. Surgical Log & Error Handling

  • Immediate Truncation: If a terminal command, build tool, or test runner produces more than 50 lines of output, extract only the first 5 lines, the core error message, and the immediate stack trace.
  • Massive Logs: Never paste multi-hundred-line outputs into the chat. Pipe them to a local file (e.g., scratch/error.log) and inspect using grep.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Skillpper Saver AI skill do?

Aggressive token, context, and cost optimization mode for AI coding agents (Claude Code, Antigravity, Cursor, etc.). Prevents marathon sessions, eliminates redundant file re-reading, prioritizes text extraction over screenshots in browser automation, and manages context windows with surgical cutoff triggers. Use when the user requests token savings, context optimization, quota conservation, or when starting extensive refactoring, browsing, or debugging tasks.

Why use Skillpper Saver on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Skillpper Saver is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Skillpper Saver in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/kipperacademy/skillpper/tree/main/skillpper-saver. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Skillpper Saver?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Skillpper Saver?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Skillpper Saver with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Skillpper Saver AI skill free?

It is published on GitHub by kipperacademy. Check the repository for licensing terms. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
