  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 20 bundled files

Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

Published by legioncodeinc on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Code Bloat Stinger AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/legioncodeinc/vibe-coding-tools/tree/main/plugins/code-audit-tools/skills/code-bloat-stinger
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/legioncodeinc/vibe-coding-tools.git /tmp/vibe-coding-tools
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/vibe-coding-tools/plugins/code-audit-tools/skills/code-bloat-stinger .claude/skills/code-bloat-stinger
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Code Bloat Stinger in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Code Bloat Stinger on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Code Bloat Stinger is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Where this skill's files are

Every path below (guides/, references/, scripts/) is relative to the folder that contains this SKILL.md. In Claude Code that folder is ${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}. If that text was not replaced with a real path, find the folder yourself (Glob for **/code-bloat-stinger/SKILL.md) and use it as SKILL_DIR in every command.

Requirements

Node 20.19 or newer, Python 3.9 or newer, and Perl for cloc or a downloaded scc binary (Go or Cargo only for those repos). The commands in references/tool-commands.md are bash (env -i, bash arrays, [ ] tests): on Windows, run them in Git Bash or WSL, not PowerShell or cmd. The throwaway copy (audit-my-code-stinger/scripts/make_scratch_copy.py) and this skill's scripts/*.py are plain Python and run anywhere.

Purpose

Answer "how bloated is this codebase, and why?" with numbers a founder can trust. The skill measures three kinds of bloat separately, because they have different causes and fixes: copy-pasted code (jscpd at two clone sizes, with both the standard and the both-copies figure), unused code (knip for JS and TS, vulture, deadcode, staticcheck or cargo tools elsewhere, always checked by hand before it is called dead), and shape (share of code in files over 1,000 lines, the largest functions, factory closures, and a split plan). It writes the bloat dimension of an Audit My Code run (01-bloat/) under the shared contract, and never changes the audited repository: every tool runs in a throwaway copy that is removed afterwards. The method reproduces a hand-run reference audit (WHIPT, 2026-09-30) on any repository.

When to use

  • "Is this codebase bloated?", "is it bloated because it was vibe coded?", "how much is copy-pasted?", "how much dead code is there?"
  • The bloat dimension of /audit-my-code at the vibe, basic, full, or mario tier
  • Measuring duplication, unused files, exports and dependencies, file and function size, or planning how to split giant files
  • Re-running the same measures after a cleanup to show what changed

When not to use

  • Security weaknesses: security-stinger and the framework security Drones (02-security/)
  • Whether the code matches its plan, tests, or quality bar: quality-stinger (03-quality/)
  • Repo setup, CI, docs, and hygiene: the foundation Drone (00-foundation/)
  • Actually deleting code or refactoring: this skill only reports; remediation belongs to the mario tier and the owning engineering Drone
  • Dependency vulnerability triage: dependency-audit-stinger

Procedure

  1. Read guides/00-scoping-and-throwaway-copy.md. Read intake.json, make the copy with git archive, install pinned tools outside the copy, write the scope and file list, capture git status of the audited repo, pick the language route.
  2. Run duplication per guides/01-duplication-with-jscpd.md: 50 and 100 tokens, size and line caps lifted, scan coverage checked against the file list, then scripts/jscpd_recount.py for both copies, per area, big versus small files, and top pairs.
  3. Run unused-code detection per guides/02-unused-code-with-knip.md: workspace-aware knip from outside the repo, a failing plugin disabled through an external config, a production-mode second view, then scripts/knip_summarize.py. For non-JS code use the tools in references/non-js-dead-code.md.
  4. Count lines per guides/03-size-and-line-counts.md with cloc (--skip-uniqueness) or scc, then scripts/size_profile.py.
  5. Measure structure per guides/04-structure-and-split-planning.md with lizard and scripts/function_profile.py; read the largest files and write the split plan, including the context-object step for closures.
  6. Spot-check per guides/05-spot-check-and-false-positives.md: at least 12 flagged items classified Dead, False alarm, or Partial with a reason, then the truly-dead estimate as a share of core code lines.
  7. Band, set the verdict, write the verdict paragraph, and write metrics.json, findings.jsonl, and notes.md per guides/06-bands-verdict-and-contract-output.md. List raw artifacts under ## Evidence in notes.md (the orchestrator builds evidence-index.md). Run scripts/validate_outputs.py and fix every error.
  8. Confirm the audited repo is unchanged, remove .scratch/, and report to the orchestrator: verdict, headline measures, caps lifted, and anything not run.

Critical Directive

  • You must read all files and context contained within your skill.
  • In the event your core knowledge does not provide sufficient guidance you must make every attempt to search the internet, related knowledge base documentation files, and other available resources to supplement your knowledge prior to proceeding with your task.

Bundled files

The model reads these on demand while the skill is loaded. They are exposed as readable files and are never executed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Code Bloat Stinger AI skill do?

Read-only bloat audit of any repo. jscpd duplication, knip or language dead-code tools with a spot-check, cloc size, function and closure structure, split plans, banded verdict.

Why use Code Bloat Stinger on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Code Bloat Stinger is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Code Bloat Stinger in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/legioncodeinc/vibe-coding-tools/tree/main/plugins/code-audit-tools/skills/code-bloat-stinger. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Code Bloat Stinger?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Code Bloat Stinger?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Code Bloat Stinger with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Code Bloat Stinger AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by legioncodeinc under the AGPL-3.0-or-later license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
