Genre pack: wabi-sabi minimalism — rice paper, sumi ink, one seal-red accent, a Japanese mincho serif, negative space as the design, one vertical text element allowed. Calm, deliberate, quiet-luxury's unpolished cousin. Use for studios, tea/food brands, wellness, personal sites, and any brief wanting meditative restraint. Stack on the design-taste core skill.

  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • Self-contained

Everything the model needs lives in the instructions — no extra files to sync.

  • Open source

Published by madebymustafa on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Japanese Minimal AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/madebymustafa/design-taste/tree/main/skills/japanese-minimal
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/madebymustafa/design-taste.git /tmp/design-taste
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/design-taste/skills/japanese-minimal .claude/skills/japanese-minimal
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Japanese Minimal in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Japanese Minimal on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Japanese Minimal is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

One identity: a room with one vase — the absence is the design.

1. PALETTE (Fixed)

  • Paper: #F4F1EA (rice paper warmth). Alternate: #ECE8DF.
  • Ink: #33302B (sumi — soft, never pure black).
  • Secondary: #8A8378 (stone ash) for metadata and body-aside text.
  • Seal accent — exactly one: #B3392A (hanko red). Used for: the seal mark, one underline, one stat, links. That's the entire accent budget.
  • No pure white, no gradients, no colored fields (accent-colored fields banned — accent is a mark, not a surface).

2. TYPOGRAPHY (Fixed)

  • Display: Japanese mincho serif (Shippori Mincho, or a serif with calligraphic rhythm), weight 400–600, clamp(2.4rem, 6vw, 5rem), leading 1.15–1.3 (mincho breathes — no brutal leading).
  • Body: a clean gothic (Zen Kaku Gothic New or system sans at 300–400) 15–16px, 1.8–2.0 line-height — generous.
  • Labels: gothic caps or roman numerals, letter-spacing: 0.18em, 10–11px, stone ash.
  • One vertical moment: a single writing-mode: vertical-rl text element (a label, a number, a name) per page — a worthwhile signature, never repeated.
  • No italics (mincho has none in spirit), no fake bold, no all-caps display.

3. COMPOSITION (Fixed)

  • Ma (negative space) is the layout. Hero padding ≥ 20vh. Sections ≥ 160px apart. If a section feels empty, that's correct — do not fill it.
  • Asymmetric stillness: content in a 5/12–7/12 column, offset from center; one object per line of sight. Never center-symmetric stacks, never full-bleed busy screens.
  • Rules over boxes: thin (1px) stone-ash rules for section dividers and index rows. Panels are paper-tone (#ECE8DF) with NO border — tone, not line.
  • Index as a list: items on hairline rows: number / name / one-line note. Counts in mincho numerals.
  • The seal: the hanko (a square or rounded-square red mark with one ideograph or monogram in white) appears exactly twice: once near the wordmark, once in the footer. It's a signature, not a logo badge.

4. CONTENT TREATMENT

  • No emoji, no icon sets — typographic marks (・, —, ◦) or the seal itself.
  • If photography: one or two images max, muted, grainy, generous margins (image smaller than the column, not filling it); filter: saturate(0.7) contrast(0.95).
  • Copy rhythm: short lines, imperatives in the form of observation ("The data asked quietly."), no exclamation marks, no superlatives ("best/greatest/revolutionary").
  • CTA: one text link with a seal-red underline, or one solid sumi button (square). Never two equal CTAs.

5. MOTION (Single Acts)

  • One fade/rise per section: 500–700ms, cubic-bezier(0.22, 1, 0.36, 1), 8–10px.
  • Hover: color shifts to seal red or opacity 0.75, 200ms. Nothing else exists. No parallax, no marquees, no loops.

6. CHECKLIST (Fail the Page If…)

  • Any color besides paper, ink, ash, and seal red.
  • Any accent-colored surface (accent is mark-only).
  • Any border-radius above 2px or any box-shadow.
  • Display set in a sans.
  • Italic or uppercase display text.
  • Center-symmetric hero or less than ~160px between sections.
  • More than one vertical text element.
  • Any element that doesn't appear to have been placed with a reason.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Japanese Minimal AI skill do?

Genre pack: wabi-sabi minimalism — rice paper, sumi ink, one seal-red accent, a Japanese mincho serif, negative space as the design, one vertical text element allowed. Calm, deliberate, quiet-luxury's unpolished cousin. Use for studios, tea/food brands, wellness, personal sites, and any brief wanting meditative restraint. Stack on the design-taste core skill.

Why use Japanese Minimal on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Japanese Minimal is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Japanese Minimal in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/madebymustafa/design-taste/tree/main/skills/japanese-minimal. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Japanese Minimal?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Japanese Minimal?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Japanese Minimal with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Japanese Minimal AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by madebymustafa under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
