  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • Self-contained

Everything the model needs lives in the instructions — no extra files to sync.

  • Open source

Published by madebymustafa on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Retro Print AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/madebymustafa/design-taste/tree/main/skills/retro-print
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/madebymustafa/design-taste.git /tmp/design-taste
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/design-taste/skills/retro-print .claude/skills/retro-print
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Retro Print in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Retro Print on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Retro Print is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

retro-print

One identity: a risograph poster that just came off the drum — straight print, honest misregistration.

1. PALETTE (Fixed)

  • Paper: #F4EDDE (warm print stock). Alternate panel: #EBE2CF (slightly pulled).
  • Ink: #21201C (print black).
  • Inks — exactly two, at most: riso red #E4572E and riso blue #355E8C. If the brief needs one, use red. If two, red + blue. Never a third.
  • NO gradients, NO antialiased-looking shadows (no box-shadow blurs), NO pure white backgrounds, NO screenshots-in-browser.

2. TYPOGRAPHY (Fixed)

  • Display: a single-weight condensed/display poster face (Anton, Archivo Narrow 800, or the system's heaviest), uppercase, clamp(2.8rem, 8vw, 7rem), tight leading 0.95–1.0. Poster volume, not editorial whisper.
  • Body: a quiet serif (Newsreader, Georgia) at 16–18px, 1.6–1.7 — the print contrast to the shouting display.
  • Labels/metadata: monospaced caps (IBM Plex Mono), letter-spacing: 0.1em, 10–12px, ink or red.
  • The signature: misregistration offsets — display text with text-shadow: 2px 2px 0 var(--riso-red) (or blue). Apply to 2–3 headings max, never body. One offset direction per page.

3. TEXTURE & DETAIL (The Craft That Sells It)

  • Halftone: dot fields via repeating-radial-gradient (radial-gradient(var(--ink) 1.2px, transparent 1.3px) at 8–12px grid), capped at ~2 panels per page. Inverse (paper dots on ink field) counts as one.
  • Rough edges: elements may sit flush to viewport edges, section separators can be full-bleed ink rules — print bleed, not web padding.
  • Stamps: mono caps in a circle or pill with a dashed ink border, rotated 1–3°, max two per page (e.g., one in the nav, one in an attribution). Stamp = dashed, always.
  • Halftone numbers: big display numerals (01, 02) in red with blue offset.
  • No emoji. No linear icons — typographic markers (✳, →, ◆) or drawn dot-grid marks only.

4. COMPOSITION (Fixed)

  • Poster grid: asymmetric columns (5/7 or 4/8), one giant element per viewport, rules (1–2px ink) doing the separation instead of cards.
  • Hero: kicker stamp → giant display headline (offset applied) → body serif block right-aligned in 4/12 → two-line mono colophon under ("SKITTIE VOL. 02 — PRINTED IN FIVE COLORS").
  • Features: numbered print index — big figure + serif name + body description on hairline-divided rows.
  • Pricing: three poster cards — paper / ink field (paper type) / paper + red; 2px ink borders, square corners. The ink card is the featured.
  • Photographs (if any): duotone — grayscale → sepia → hue-rotate toward ink, contrast 1.15, with a 1.5px ink frame. Grain via faint noise if available.

5. MOTION (Almost None — Prints Don't Move)

  • One entrance: sections reveal with a 200ms snap-up (6px), like paper landing.
  • Hover: link color flips to red, 100ms. Nothing drifts, nothing rolls, no parallax — the illusion is physical print.
  • QR/archive jokes allowed in copy, not in motion.

6. CHECKLIST (Fail the Page If…)

  • More than two ink colors (red + blue max) in use.
  • Any gradient or blurred shadow.
  • Any pure white background.
  • Any emoji.
  • Display type not uppercase or smaller than ~2.8rem.
  • Body text set in a sans.
  • No texture anywhere (no halftone, no misregistration, no stamp) — that's the identity.
  • Misregistration offset applied to body text.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Retro Print AI skill do?

Genre pack: Risograph / 70s–80s print revival. Warm paper, pigment inks (one red + one blue maximum), halftone dot textures, misregistered ink offsets, rubber-stamp details, poster typography. Use for zines, events, agencies, food/drink brands, music, and anything wanting a warm analog voice. Stack on the design-taste core skill.

Why use Retro Print on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Retro Print is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Retro Print in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/madebymustafa/design-taste/tree/main/skills/retro-print. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Retro Print?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Retro Print?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Retro Print with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Retro Print AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by madebymustafa under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
