  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • Self-contained

Everything the model needs lives in the instructions — no extra files to sync.

  • Open source

Published by microsoft on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Al Plan Guidance AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/microsoft/BCQuality/tree/main/skills/al-plan-guidance
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/microsoft/BCQuality.git /tmp/BCQuality
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/BCQuality/skills/al-plan-guidance .claude/skills/al-plan-guidance
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Al Plan Guidance in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Al Plan Guidance on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Al Plan Guidance is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

AL plan guidance (preview)

This is BCQuality's host-native adapter for applying knowledge to an existing AL development plan. It is a preview: the underlying contract may change based on pilot feedback. It is not a BCQuality action skill and contains no routing or knowledge-selection policy. Its only responsibility is to translate the caller's request into an Entry task context and execute the resulting dispatch.

The adapter is read-only. It never creates or rewrites the plan, edits source, writes generated files into the caller's repository, runs tests, or implements the change.

Execute

  1. Resolve PLUGIN_ROOT to the directory containing this plugin's root plugin.json. This file is PLUGIN_ROOT/skills/al-plan-guidance/SKILL.md; when the host does not expose the plugin root, resolve it two levels above this file.
  2. Identify the caller's existing plan: a plan file path, plan text in the request, or a plan the caller explicitly identifies in the conversation. If no plan is available, ask the caller for one. Do not generate a plan; this skill enriches an existing one.
  3. Build the task-context required by PLUGIN_ROOT/skills/entry.md:
    • Copy the caller's actual request verbatim into goal.
    • Set inputs-available to development-plan, plus repository when the caller's AL repository or app folder is readable. Pass the complete plan content as development-plan and the repository path as repository; for a request in the caller's working directory, use that directory.
    • Set technologies: [al].
    • Pass bc-version, countries, and application-area only when supplied or reliably determined from the plan or repository.
    • If BCQUALITY_ENABLED_LAYERS is set, split its comma-separated value and pass the trimmed, non-empty entries as enabled-layers; otherwise omit the field and let Entry apply its default.
    • If BCQUALITY_DISABLED_SKILLS is set, split its comma-separated value and pass the trimmed, non-empty entries as disabled-skills; otherwise omit the field.
  4. Read and execute PLUGIN_ROOT/skills/entry.md exactly as written, including its Preparation step. Entry is authoritative for index freshness, routing, defaults, and failure behavior; this adapter must not duplicate or weaken those rules. Resolve every repo-relative path Entry names against PLUGIN_ROOT, not the caller's working directory. Run Preparation's index build as pwsh PLUGIN_ROOT/tools/Build-KnowledgeIndex.ps1. If PLUGIN_ROOT is inside the caller's repository, pass -IndexPath to a location outside that repository and supply the resulting index path to the dispatched skill. If pwsh is unavailable or the build fails, continue with READ's path-based discovery; a failed build is not empty knowledge.
  5. Follow Entry's How the agent uses the dispatch instructions. Invoke only the returned action skills, pass each dispatch entry's exact input subset, and read PLUGIN_ROOT/skills/read.md and PLUGIN_ROOT/skills/do.md on demand.
  6. Return each dispatched development guidance report unchanged. If Entry returns no-match or failed, return its dispatch record unchanged.

The internal microsoft/skills/development/al-development-plan.md action skill selects and converts the applicable knowledge. This adapter never selects articles itself.

Using the result

Give the guidance report to the agent implementing the plan, together with the plan itself. After implementation, review the completed change with al-code-review; the guidance report is input to the work, not proof that the result is correct.

Layer selection is not a deny mechanism

A plugin install ships the whole BCQuality tree, so enabled-layers here can only narrow discovery: the files of a layer left out of the list still exist on disk. Treat BCQUALITY_ENABLED_LAYERS as a selection filter, never as a security boundary. A host that needs a genuine deny mechanism must prune the installed tree itself.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Al Plan Guidance AI skill do?

Preview. Enrich an existing Business Central AL development plan with applicable BCQuality guidance before implementation, without changing the plan or repository. Use when the caller supplies a plan file or plan text for an AL change.

Why use Al Plan Guidance on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Al Plan Guidance is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Al Plan Guidance in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/microsoft/BCQuality/tree/main/skills/al-plan-guidance. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Al Plan Guidance?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Al Plan Guidance?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Al Plan Guidance with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Al Plan Guidance AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by microsoft under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
