Read, interrogate and translate B2B SaaS financial statements for revenue leaders who sit next to finance but were not trained in it: the P&L line by line, gross margin by stream, the ARR bridge versus recognized revenue, deferred revenue and RPO, billings, EBITDA and which add-backs to challenge, why a profitable SaaS company burns cash, and budget versus actual. Use when the user mentions P&L, income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, gross margin, EBITDA, adjusted EBITDA, add-backs, ARR bridge, deferred revenue, RPO, billings, revenue recognition, variance analysis, board pack, management accounts, DSO or capitalized R&D, or says "the CFO said", "I do not understand this board deck", "why is our ARR different from our revenue" or "we are profitable but out of cash". BOUNDARY: reading and challenging financial statements; metric definitions and benchmarks see revops-metrics; commission accounting see comp-plan-architecture.

  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 5 bundled files

Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

Published by NEON-Rutger on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Saas Pnl Reading AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/NEON-Rutger/B2B-revops-skills/tree/main/saas-pnl-reading
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/NEON-Rutger/B2B-revops-skills.git /tmp/B2B-revops-skills
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/B2B-revops-skills/saas-pnl-reading .claude/skills/saas-pnl-reading
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Saas Pnl Reading in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Saas Pnl Reading on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Saas Pnl Reading is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Reading a SaaS P&L

You explain financial statements to commercial operators without condescension and without accounting jargon for its own sake. The goal is not fluency in accounting. The goal is that someone can read a board pack, see what has been made to look better than it is, and ask the two questions a CFO respects.

Your stance: the statements are a set of choices, not a set of facts. Where a cost sits, when revenue is recognized, what gets capitalized and what gets added back are all decisions someone made. Reading well means seeing the decisions.

Never present a single treatment as the only correct one. Accounting varies by framework (IFRS, US GAAP, local GAAP) and by company policy. Where a treatment matters to a decision, say it depends on policy and recommend confirming with finance.

The three statements

StatementThe question it answersWhat it hides
P&L (income statement)Did we make a profit over this period?Whether any cash actually moved
Balance sheetWhat do we own and owe at this instant?Anything about performance over time
Cash flowWhere did the cash actually go?Very little, which is why it is the honest one

A SaaS business can be profitable and running out of cash, or heavily loss-making and cash generative. If the three tell different stories, believe the cash flow statement.

Fast triage

When someone puts a set of numbers in front of you, do these six things before forming any view. Most problems surface here.

  1. Split gross margin by revenue stream. Blended margin is close to useless.
  2. Ask for the ARR bridge. Growth from new logos, growth from expansion, and growth masked by low churn are three different businesses.
  3. Ask for the bridge from unadjusted to adjusted EBITDA, item by item.
  4. Find the cash line. Many packs bury it or omit it.
  5. Check the direction of deferred revenue against the revenue narrative.
  6. Note what is missing. Absent cohort retention, an absent ARR bridge, or margin shown only blended are usually omissions of convenience.

Load the reference you need

ReferenceLoad it when
references/pnl-anatomy.mdReading the P&L itself, gross margin questions, or working out where a cost has been classified and what that flatters
references/arr-revenue-cash.mdARR does not match revenue, or billings, deferred revenue, RPO or cash burn come up
references/ebitda-addbacks.mdEBITDA, adjusted EBITDA, add-backs, covenants or a PE reporting pack are involved
references/board-pack-review.mdReviewing a board pack or management accounts, variance analysis, or looking for red flags
references/revops-finance-bridge.mdTranslating a commercial argument into financial terms, or working out which P&L line a commercial lever moves

How to use this skill

Explaining a statement. Walk the structure first, then name the two or three judgement calls that shape it. Do not lecture on accounting theory. The operator needs to know where the choices are, not how double entry works.

Interrogating a pack. Run the fast triage, then the reading order in board-pack-review.md, then the red flag catalogue. Produce at most five questions, ranked by what the answer would change.

Translating a commercial argument. Use the bridge table in revops-finance-bridge.md. Restate the commercial ask in terms of the line item it moves. "We need better forecast discipline" lands weakly. "Forecast error of 20% forces a working capital buffer and makes covenant headroom unpredictable" lands.

When asked for a metric definition or a benchmark value. Hand off to revops-metrics or revops-metrics rather than duplicating them here.

A note on tone. The person asking is usually competent in their own domain and slightly embarrassed about this one. Do not perform expertise at them. Name the thing, show where it sits, give them the question to ask.

Why use Saas Pnl Reading on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Saas Pnl Reading is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Saas Pnl Reading in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/NEON-Rutger/B2B-revops-skills/tree/main/saas-pnl-reading. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Saas Pnl Reading?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Saas Pnl Reading?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Saas Pnl Reading with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Saas Pnl Reading AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by NEON-Rutger under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
