  • Markdown instructions

    A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

    AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 1 bundled files

    Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

    Published by OpenLAIR on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/OpenLAIR/OpenSkill/tree/main/tasks-evolved/exceltable-in-ppt/environment/skills/evo-pptx-embedded-excel-updater
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/OpenLAIR/OpenSkill.git /tmp/OpenSkill
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/OpenSkill/tasks-evolved/exceltable-in-ppt/environment/skills/evo-pptx-embedded-excel-updater .claude/skills/evo-pptx-embedded-excel-updater
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

    The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

    Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Overview

End-to-end handling of embedded Excel OLE objects in PPTX files. Covers:

  • Identifying OLE shapes and text boxes on slides
  • Extracting embedded xlsx blobs via python-pptx
  • Reading/modifying Excel data with openpyxl while preserving formula cells
  • Writing modified blobs back into the PPTX package
  • Parsing text box content for updated exchange rate values

Requirements

  • python-pptx >= 1.0.2
  • openpyxl >= 3.1.5

Key Domain Knowledge

OLE Object Identification

  • Embedded Excel objects have shape.shape_type == MSO_SHAPE_TYPE.EMBEDDED_OLE_OBJECT (integer 7)
  • The ole_format.prog_id contains 'Excel' (typically 'Excel.Sheet.12')
  • Do NOT confuse with MSO_SHAPE_TYPE.TABLE (native DrawingML tables)

Excel Blob Access

  • Use shape.ole_format.blob for direct byte access to the embedded xlsx
  • For write-back, get the relationship ID from shape._element.xpath('.//p:oleObj') and access slide.part.rels[r_id].target_part
  • Replace via target_part._blob = modified_bytes

Formula Preservation

  • CRITICAL: Load workbook with data_only=False to preserve formulas
  • Formula cells are strings starting with '='
  • Only update non-formula (hardcoded value) cells
  • openpyxl strips cached formula values on save; Excel recalculates on open

Text Box Reading

  • Check shape.has_text_frame before accessing text
  • shape.text gives full text content
  • Soft line breaks appear as \x0b (vertical tab)

Exchange Rate Table Structure

  • Row 1: headers ("Exchange Rate", currency codes...)
  • Column A: row currency labels
  • Cell at (row_currency_row, col_currency_col) = rate from row_currency to col_currency
  • Diagonal cells = 1 (same currency)

Usage

python
import sys
sys.path.insert(0, '/app/environment/skills/evo-pptx-embedded-excel-updater/scripts')
from utils import (
    find_embedded_ole_excel_shapes,
    extract_excel_blob_from_ole_shape,

    save_excel_to_blob,
    replace_ole_blob_in_pptx,
    find_cell_by_currency_pair,
    process_pptx_exchange_rate_update
)

# Quick end-to-end usage:
process_pptx_exchange_rate_update('/root/input.pptx', '/root/results.pptx')

# Or step-by-step:
from pptx import Presentation
prs = Presentation('input.pptx')
slide = prs.slides[0]

# Find Excel objects
excel_shapes = find_embedded_ole_excel_shapes(slide)
shape, ole = excel_shapes[0]

# Read text box for updated rate
text_boxes = read_text_boxes_from_slide(slide)
for name, text in text_boxes:
    rate_info = parse_exchange_rate_from_text(text)
    if rate_info:
        from_curr, to_curr, new_rate = rate_info
        break

# Extract and modify Excel
excel_blob, r_id, target_part = extract_excel_blob_from_ole_shape(shape, slide)
wb, ws = load_excel_from_blob(excel_blob)
cell_coord = find_cell_by_currency_pair(ws, from_curr, to_curr)
old_val, updated = update_excel_cell_preserve_formulas(ws, cell_coord, new_rate)

# Save back
modified_blob = save_excel_to_blob(wb)
replace_ole_blob_in_pptx(target_part, modified_blob)
prs.save('output.pptx')

Frequently asked questions

What does the Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater AI skill do?

Provides utilities for finding and manipulating embedded Excel OLE objects within PPTX files, reading text boxes for context, modifying Excel cell values while preserving formulas, and saving the updated PPTX. Use when you need to extract embedded Excel spreadsheets from PowerPoint presentations, update exchange rates or other cell values based on text box annotations, replace embedded Excel data while keeping formula integrity, or perform any programmatic modification of OLE-embedded Excel objects in PPTX files.

Why use Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/OpenLAIR/OpenSkill/tree/main/tasks-evolved/exceltable-in-ppt/environment/skills/evo-pptx-embedded-excel-updater. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Evo Pptx Embedded Excel Updater AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by OpenLAIR under the Apache-2.0 license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
