vision-setting

Use this skill when the user asks to "write a product vision", "define our vision", "help me articulate where we're going", "vision statement", "long-term vision", "what should our 3-year vision be", "our product story", or wants to create or refine the aspirational direction for the product. Also use this skill when preparing a board or all-hands presentation that needs to anchor on vision. Do NOT use this skill for OKR setting — use strategy/okr-structuring for that.

  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • Self-contained

Everything the model needs lives in the instructions — no extra files to sync.

  • Open source

Published by Productfculty-aipm on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Vision Setting AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/Productfculty-aipm/PM-Copilot-by-Product-Faculty/tree/main/skills/vision-setting
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/Productfculty-aipm/PM-Copilot-by-Product-Faculty.git /tmp/PM-Copilot-by-Product-Faculty
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/PM-Copilot-by-Product-Faculty/skills/vision-setting .claude/skills/vision-setting
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Vision Setting in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Vision Setting on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Vision Setting is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Vision Setting

You are helping the user articulate a clear, compelling product vision — the aspirational picture of what the world looks like when they win. Vision is not strategy (how you'll get there) and not roadmap (what you'll build). It's the destination that makes strategy and roadmap choices obvious.

Frameworks: Marty Cagan (vision as a north star), Shreyas Doshi (vision → strategic framework → roadmap stack), Jackie Bavaro (vision → strategy → execution levels).

Step 1 — Load Context

Read memory/user-profile.md for product name, stage, core user problem, and current bets. Read context/company/mission.md for company direction and values.

Step 2 — Vision Inputs

Before writing, clarify three things:

The user: Who specifically benefits from the future world the vision describes? "Everyone" is not a valid answer. Name the specific segment.

The transformation: What changes in their life or work when the product achieves its vision? How is their situation meaningfully different?

The timeframe: Is this a 1-year, 3-year, or 10-year vision? Calibrate ambition accordingly.

If any of these are unclear, ask one targeted question — don't ask all three at once.

Step 3 — The Vision Test

A strong product vision passes all five tests:

  1. Aspirational: It describes a future state, not a current state or a plan
  2. Specific: It names who benefits and how — not "we'll help people" but "solo PMs will function like 3-person teams"
  3. Durable: It should still be directionally right 3–5 years from now, even if tactics change
  4. Differentiating: It's distinct from what competitors would say — someone should be able to identify the company from the vision alone
  5. Motivating: It makes smart people want to work here and choose this product

Step 4 — Write Three Vision Drafts

Write three vision statement alternatives:

  1. The narrative version (3–5 sentences): tells the story of the user's transformed life/work
  2. The headline version (one sentence, 15 words or less): the billboard version
  3. The team version (internal use): why this matters, who it's for, what winning looks like

For each, identify: what does this make obviously prioritized? What does this make obviously out of scope? If it's not clear, the vision isn't sharp enough.

Step 5 — Strategy Coherence Check

After selecting a vision, check: does the current roadmap point toward this vision?

  • Pull roadmap from memory or context/product/roadmap.md
  • For each Now/Next item: does it move toward this vision or sideways?
  • Any item that doesn't connect to the vision is either cover fire (justified) or misaligned (needs discussion)

Flag misaligned items as a conversation for the user to have with their team or leadership.

Step 6 — Output

Produce:

  • The three vision drafts with commentary on each
  • Recommendation with rationale (which vision is most useful and why)
  • A "what this makes obvious" section: top 3 things this vision makes obviously worth doing, and top 3 things it makes obviously not worth doing
  • Strategy coherence check result

Offer to save the chosen vision to memory/user-profile.md as current_bets context.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Vision Setting AI skill do?

Use this skill when the user asks to "write a product vision", "define our vision", "help me articulate where we're going", "vision statement", "long-term vision", "what should our 3-year vision be", "our product story", or wants to create or refine the aspirational direction for the product. Also use this skill when preparing a board or all-hands presentation that needs to anchor on vision. Do NOT use this skill for OKR setting — use strategy/okr-structuring for that.

Why use Vision Setting on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Vision Setting is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Vision Setting in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/Productfculty-aipm/PM-Copilot-by-Product-Faculty/tree/main/skills/vision-setting. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Vision Setting?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Vision Setting?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Vision Setting with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Vision Setting AI skill free?

It is published on GitHub by Productfculty-aipm. Check the repository for licensing terms. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
