  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • Self-contained

Everything the model needs lives in the instructions — no extra files to sync.

  • Open source

Published by RevenueCat on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Setup AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/RevenueCat/play-billing-skills/tree/main/revenuecat/setup
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/RevenueCat/play-billing-skills.git /tmp/play-billing-skills
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/play-billing-skills/revenuecat/setup .claude/skills/setup
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Setup in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Setup on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Setup is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

RevenueCat Android Setup

Configure a RevenueCat project so the Android SDK can fetch offerings, validate purchases, and grant entitlements. This skill covers the dashboard side of setup and the service account connection to Google Play.

The scope stops at "dashboard ready, API key in hand." SDK initialization code belongs to the configuring-the-sdk skill.

Phase 1: Discovery

Confirm these items before you touch the RevenueCat dashboard. Missing any of them will block the connection step.

PrerequisiteWhere it livesWhy RevenueCat needs it
Google Play Console appPlay ConsoleDashboard connects by package name
Package namePlay Console app listingMust match your Android app exactly
In-app products or subscriptionsPlay Console monetizationRevenueCat imports the catalog
Base plans for subscriptionsPlay Console subscriptionBilling Library 6+ requires them
Google Cloud service account JSONGoogle Cloud ConsoleRevenueCat authenticates to the Play Developer API
Play Console account permissionsPlay Console users and permissionsView app information and download bulk reports (read-only); View financial data, orders, and cancellation survey responses; Manage orders and subscriptions; Manage store presence

Ask the user:

  • Is the app already published on Play (even as internal testing)?
  • Are products live in Play Console, or still drafts?
  • Do you have the service account JSON, or do you need the creation steps?

If products do not exist yet, pause. Product creation is a Play Console task outside this skill.

Phase 2: Plan

Pick the route that matches the user's state.

StateRoute
No RevenueCat accountStart at Step 1, create account and project
Account exists, no Android app in projectStart at Step 2, add Android app
App exists, Play not connectedJump to Step 3, upload service account
Play connected, no entitlements or offeringsJump to Step 4
Everything configured, need the API keyJump to Phase 4 verification

The default flow below runs end to end. Skip steps the user has already completed.

Phase 3: Execute

Step 1: Create the RevenueCat project and Android app

  1. Sign up or log in at app.revenuecat.com.
  2. Create a project. One project can hold Android, iOS, and web apps for the same product.
  3. Inside the project, add an Android app. Enter the Play Console package name.

RevenueCat generates a public SDK API key per platform. You will copy the Android key at the end. Do not reuse iOS or web keys in the Android app.

Step 2: Create a Google Cloud service account (if needed)

In Google Cloud Console, in the project that will own the service account (Play Console no longer needs a linked Cloud project):

  1. Enable the Google Play Android Developer API, the Google Play Developer Reporting API, and the Cloud Pub/Sub API.
  2. Create a service account and grant it Pub/Sub Editor and Monitoring Viewer.
  3. Create a JSON key for the service account and download it.

In Play Console, under Users and permissions:

  1. Invite the service account email.
  2. Grant app-level access to the app.
  3. Grant those four account permissions.

Step 3: Connect Google Play in RevenueCat

In the RevenueCat dashboard, open the Android app settings:

  1. Confirm the package name matches Play Console.
  2. Upload the service account JSON key file.
  3. Save.

RevenueCat validates the credential by calling the Play Developer API. If validation fails, the common causes are missing API enablement, wrong project, or the service account not yet propagated in Play (allow up to 36 hours; editing and saving any product description in Play Console often speeds this up).

Step 3b: Connect Real Time Developer Notifications

RevenueCat strongly recommends connecting Google Real Time Developer Notifications (RTDN), and requires it for DEFERRED plan changes and for one time product refund and void tracking.

  1. In the RevenueCat Play app settings, click Connect to Google to get a Pub/Sub topic ID.
  2. In Play Console, go to Monetize > Monetization setup > Real Time Developer Notifications, paste the topic, and choose "Get all notifications for subscriptions and one-time products" (RevenueCat's guide shows it as "Subscriptions, voided purchases, and all one-time products").
  3. Send a test notification and confirm the RevenueCat dashboard shows "Last received".

Step 4: Create entitlements

Entitlements are the access levels your app checks. Define them once, reference them everywhere in client code.

In the dashboard under Entitlements, create one per access tier. Most apps ship with a single entitlement.

IdentifierDescription
pro_accessUnlocks premium features
team_accessUnlocks team features (second tier, optional)

Use a stable identifier. Renaming an entitlement later means rewriting every feature gate.

Step 5: Import products and attach entitlements

Under Products, click Import. RevenueCat pulls the Play catalog through the connected service account.

  1. Select each product you want RevenueCat to manage.
  2. Attach each product to an entitlement. Purchasing the product grants that entitlement.

A single entitlement can back many products (monthly, annual, lifetime all unlock pro_access).

Step 6: Create an offering

Offerings drive what a user sees on the paywall. One offering groups multiple packages.

Under Offerings:

  1. Create an offering (for example, default).
  2. Add packages. Pick a package type (Monthly, Annual, Lifetime, or custom) and assign a product.
  3. Make one offering the Default offering (the SDK returns it as offerings.current).

The Android SDK fetches offerings.current to show the default paywall. Swap the current offering later from the dashboard without shipping an app update.

Step 7: Copy the Android API key

In the Android app settings, copy the public SDK API key. This value is the second argument to PurchasesConfiguration.Builder. The skill configuring-the-sdk uses it.

kotlin
// Handed off to configuring-the-sdk
val revenueCatApiKey = "goog_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

Phase 4: Verify

Confirm the dashboard and Play Console are wired together before moving to SDK work.

CheckHow to verifyPass signal
Service account acceptedRevenueCat app settings, Google Play sectionShows connected with a green indicator
Real Time Developer Notifications connectedRevenueCat app settings, Google Play sectionShows "Last received" after a test notification

Entitlement attachmentsOpen each productShows the attached entitlement
Default offeringOfferings tabOne offering marked Default
Package product linksOpen the current offeringEach package shows a product identifier
API key scopeProject settings, API keysAndroid key is distinct from iOS and web keys

Ask the user to confirm each row. If a product shows no price, the service account is connected but the product is not active in Play. Fix the Play listing, then re-import.

Hand off to configuring-the-sdk with:

  • The Android API key
  • The current offering identifier
  • The entitlement identifiers the app will check

Frequently asked questions

What does the Setup AI skill do?

Use this skill when setting up a RevenueCat project for Android: creating the app in the dashboard, uploading the Google Play service account credentials, connecting Real Time Developer Notifications, configuring entitlements and offerings, and getting the public SDK API key for the Android app.

Why use Setup on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Setup is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Setup in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/RevenueCat/play-billing-skills/tree/main/revenuecat/setup. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Setup?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Setup?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Setup with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Setup AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by RevenueCat under the Apache-2.0 license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
