skillshare

Manages and syncs AI CLI skills and agents across 50+ tools from a single source. Use this skill whenever the user mentions "skillshare", runs skillshare commands, manages skills or agents (install, update, uninstall, sync, commit, audit, analyze, check, diff, search), or troubleshoots skill/agent configuration (orphaned symlinks, broken targets, sync issues). Covers both global (~/.config/skillshare/) and project (.skillshare/ or skillshare/) modes. Also use when: adding new AI tool targets (Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.), setting target include/exclude filters or copy vs symlink mode, using backup/restore or trash recovery, piping skillshare output to scripts (--json), setting up CI/CD audit pipelines, building/sharing skill hubs (hub index, hub add), or working with agents (single .md files synced to agent-capable targets like Claude, Cursor, Augment, OpenCode) via positional `agents` filter or `--kind agent`, plus `.agentignore` and `enable`/`disable` for per-agent toggles.

  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 12 bundled files

Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

Published by runkids on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Skillshare AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/runkids/skillshare.git /tmp/skillshare
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/skillshare/skills/skillshare .claude/skills/skillshare
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Skillshare in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Skillshare on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Skillshare is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Skillshare CLI

Global: ~/.config/skillshare/skills/ → all AI CLIs. Project: .skillshare/skills/ → repo-local. Auto-detects project mode from .skillshare/config.yaml or skillshare/config.yaml (hidden wins when both exist). Force with -p or -g.

Recipes

Getting Started

bash
skillshare init --no-copy --all-targets --git --skill # Fresh global setup
skillshare init -p --targets "claude, cursor" # Fresh project setup
skillshare init -p --visible # Use skillshare/ instead of .skillshare/
skillshare init --copy-from claude --all-targets --git # Import from existing CLI
skillshare init --discover --select "windsurf" # Add new AI tool later

Installing Skills

bash
skillshare install user/repo -s pdf,commit # Select specific skills
skillshare install user/repo --all # Install everything
skillshare install user/repo --into frontend # Place in subdirectory
skillshare install gitlab.com/team/repo # Any Git host
skillshare install user/repo --track # Enable `update` later
skillshare install user/repo -b develop --all # Install from branch
skillshare install user/repo --track -b develop # Track specific branch
skillshare install user/repo -s pdf -p # Install to project
skillshare install # Rehydrate remote skills/tracked repos
skillshare sync # Always sync after install

Extras (Rules, Commands, Prompts)

bash
skillshare extras init rules --target ~/.claude/rules --target ~/.cursor/rules
skillshare extras init commands --target ~/.claude/commands --mode copy
skillshare extras init rules --target ~/.claude/rules --source ~/shared/rules # custom source (global only)
skillshare extras init rules --target ~/.cursor/rules --force # overwrite existing
skillshare extras init # Interactive TUI wizard (incl. source step)
skillshare extras source # Show current extras_source
skillshare extras source ~/shared/extras # Set global extras_source
skillshare extras list # Show status per target
skillshare extras list --json # JSON with source_type field
skillshare extras collect rules # Pull local files into source
skillshare extras remove rules # Remove from config (source preserved)
skillshare extras init agents --target ~/.claude/agents --flatten # Flatten subdirs into root
skillshare extras rules --mode copy # Change sync mode of a target
skillshare extras agents --flatten # Enable flatten on existing target
skillshare extras rules --add-target ~/.cursor/rules # Add a target to an existing extra
skillshare extras rules --remove-target ~/.cursor/rules --prune # Remove a target (--prune deletes synced files)
skillshare sync extras # Sync all extras to targets
skillshare sync extras --dry-run --force # Preview / overwrite conflicts
skillshare sync --all # Sync skills + extras together

Project extras always read from <sources.extras>/<name> (default .skillshare/extras/<name>); per-extra source and extras source are global-only. For project agents, prefer target agents: unless you need extras-only flatten/extension.

A target can set an extension: field in config.yaml to transform each source file during sync (e.g. markdown → TOML for Gemini/Codex); implies copy mode. See extras.md for details.

Extensions (Content Transformation)

bash
# Extension is a directory at .skillshare/extensions/<name>/
# extension.yaml controls: run command, output_ext, description
# Official extensions: https://github.com/runkids/skillshare/tree/main/extensions

extension.yaml format:

yaml
run: ["node", "convert.js"] # or ["python3", "convert.py"] etc.
output_ext: toml # renames output file extension
description: "MD → Codex TOML"

Add extension to an extras target in config.yaml:

yaml
extras:
  - name: agents
    targets:
      - path: .claude/agents # plain copy/merge
      - path: .codex/agents
extension: codex-agents # transform + rename to .toml

Caveats:

  • extension: is only supported on extras targets — native agents targets ignore it
  • Implies copy mode; merge/symlink won't apply
  • Claude Code sets NODE_OPTIONS that break node extensions — use env -u NODE_OPTIONS node convert.js in run
  • Files missing required frontmatter fields fail validation and are skipped

Creating & Discovering Skills

skillshare hub index --source ~/.config/skillshare/skills/ --full --audit # Build hub index

Controlling Where Skills Go

bash
# SKILL.md frontmatter: metadata.targets: [claude] → only syncs to Claude
skillshare target claude --add-include "team-*" # glob filter
skillshare target claude --add-agent-include "team-*" # agent glob filter
skillshare target claude --add-exclude "_legacy*" # exclude pattern
skillshare target claude --agent-mode copy # agents copy mode
skillshare target codex --mode copy && skillshare sync --force # copy mode
# .skillignore — hide skills/dirs from discovery (gitignore syntax)
# Root-level: <source>/.skillignore (affects all commands)
# Repo-level: <source>/_repo/.skillignore (scoped to that repo)
# .skillignore.local — local override (not committed), negation overrides base

See targets.md for details.

AI Caller Rules

  1. Non-interactive — AI cannot answer prompts. Use --force, --all, -s, --targets, --no-copy, --all-targets, --yes.
  2. Sync after mutationsinstall, uninstall, update, collect, target all need sync.
  3. Auditinstall auto-scans; CRITICAL blocks. --force to override, --skip-audit to bypass. Detects hardcoded secrets (API keys, tokens, private keys).
  4. Uninstall safely — moves to trash (7 days). trash restore <name> to undo. NEVER rm -rf symlinks.
  5. Output--json for structured data (12 commands support it, see Quick Lookup). --no-tui for plain text on TUI commands (list, log, audit, analyze, diff, trash list, backup list, target list). tui off disables TUI globally. --dry-run to preview.
  6. Node extensions in Claude CodeNODE_OPTIONS is preloaded by the Claude Code harness and causes node to crash when running extensions. Always use run: ["env", "-u", "NODE_OPTIONS", "node", "convert.js"] in extension.yaml when writing extensions that use Node.js.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Skillshare AI skill do?

Manages and syncs AI CLI skills and agents across 50+ tools from a single source. Why use Skillshare on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Skillshare is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Skillshare in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/runkids/skillshare/tree/main/skills/skillshare. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Skillshare?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Skillshare?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Skillshare with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Skillshare AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by runkids under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
