Genai Hub Orchestration

Organization
SAP
genai-hub-orchestration

Configure and use the SAP AI Core Orchestration service: build prompt templates, add content filtering, set up document grounding (RAG) pipelines, and call models via the Harmonized API. WHEN: user asks about the orchestration service, Harmonized API, prompt templating with variables, content filtering, grounding, RAG pipeline, document grounding, or building a pipeline that wraps an LLM. DO NOT USE FOR: creating an orchestration deployment — use `aicore-lifecycle-management` for that; credential setup — use `aicore-admin-resources`; browsing or deploying foundation models directly without a pipeline — use `genai-hub-foundation-models`; direct LLM inference without a pipeline — use `aicore-sdk-java` or `aicore-sdk-js`

  • Markdown instructions

    A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

    AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 6 bundled files

    Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

    Published by SAP on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Genai Hub Orchestration AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/SAP/ai-skills-library/tree/main/plugins/aicore-skills/skills/genai-hub-orchestration
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/SAP/ai-skills-library.git /tmp/ai-skills-library
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/ai-skills-library/plugins/aicore-skills/skills/genai-hub-orchestration .claude/skills/genai-hub-orchestration
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Genai Hub Orchestration in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Genai Hub Orchestration on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Genai Hub Orchestration is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

    The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

    Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Rules

  1. Orchestration always requires a running orchestration deployment as a prerequisite — invoke aicore-lifecycle-management first if one does not exist.
  2. The orchestration endpoint is POST {DEPLOYMENT_URL}/v2/completion — not /v1/chat/completions.
  3. Orchestration scenario_id and executable_id are always "orchestration" — these are fixed.
  4. The Harmonized API normalizes all models to OpenAI message format — the same client code works for GPT, Gemini, and Bedrock.
  5. If credentials are not configured, invoke aicore-admin-resources first.
  6. generative-ai-hub-sdk is deprecated — always use sap-ai-sdk-gen. Import namespace gen_ai_hub is shared by both.
  7. If the user's request does not explicitly specify an approach, use AskUserQuestion to ask whether they prefer the REST API (curl) or the Python SDK before writing or running any code.

Deployment Prerequisite

Before using the orchestration service, a deployment must be running:

bash
# Check for an existing orchestration deployment:
uv run skills/aicore-lifecycle-management/scripts/get_deployments.py --scenario orchestration

# If none exists, create a configuration first (reuse if "orchestration" config already exists):
uv run skills/aicore-lifecycle-management/scripts/get_configurations.py --scenario-id orchestration --json | jq '.[] | select(.name == "orchestration")'
uv run skills/aicore-lifecycle-management/scripts/create_configuration.py \
  --name orchestration \
  --scenario-id orchestration \
  --executable-id orchestration

# Then deploy (takes up to 10 minutes):
uv run skills/aicore-lifecycle-management/scripts/create_deployment.py --configuration-id <config-id> --wait --timeout 600

Python SDK — Key Patterns

Basic pipeline

python
from gen_ai_hub.orchestration.service import OrchestrationService
from gen_ai_hub.orchestration.models.config import OrchestrationConfig
from gen_ai_hub.orchestration.models.llm import LLM
from gen_ai_hub.orchestration.models.template import Template, TemplateValue
from gen_ai_hub.orchestration.models.message import SystemMessage, UserMessage

config = OrchestrationConfig(
    template=Template(messages=[
        SystemMessage("You are a helpful assistant."),
        UserMessage("{{?user_query}}"),
    ]),
    llm=LLM(name="gpt-4o-mini", version="latest"),
)
svc = OrchestrationService(config=config)
result = svc.run(template_values=[TemplateValue("user_query", "Hello")])
print(result.orchestration_result.choices[0].message.content)

Add content filtering

python
from gen_ai_hub.orchestration.models.content_filtering import (
    ContentFiltering,
    InputFiltering,
    OutputFiltering,
)
from gen_ai_hub.orchestration.models.azure_content_filter import AzureContentFilter

filtering = ContentFiltering(
    input_filtering=InputFiltering(filters=[AzureContentFilter(hate=2, violence=2, sexual=2, self_harm=2)]),
    output_filtering=OutputFiltering(filters=[AzureContentFilter(hate=2, violence=2, sexual=2, self_harm=2)]),
)
config = OrchestrationConfig(template=..., llm=..., filtering=filtering)

REST API (curl)

bash
export TOKEN=$(uv run skills/aicore-admin-resources/scripts/get_token.py)
export DEPLOYMENT_URL=$(uv run skills/aicore-lifecycle-management/scripts/get_deployments.py \
  --scenario orchestration --json 2>/dev/null | jq -r '.[0].deployment_url')
export RESOURCE_GROUP=$(uv run skills/aicore-admin-resources/scripts/check_setup.py 2>/dev/null | jq -r '.resource_group')

curl --request POST "${DEPLOYMENT_URL}/v2/completion" \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer ${TOKEN}" \
  --header "AI-Resource-Group: ${RESOURCE_GROUP}" \
  --header "content-type: application/json" \
  --data-raw '{
    "config": {
      "modules": {
        "prompt_templating": {
          "prompt": {
            "template": [
              {"role": "system", "content": "You are a helpful assistant."},
              {"role": "user",   "content": "{{?user_query}}"}
            ]
          },
          "model": {
            "name": "gpt-4o-mini",
            "params": {"max_completion_tokens": 512}
          }
        }
      }
    },
    "placeholder_values": {"user_query": "What is SAP AI Core?"},
    "messages_history": []
  }'

Extract the answer with: jq '.final_result.choices[0].message.content'

Reasoning models (Gemini 2.5 Pro, o3): set max_completion_tokens to at least 1024 — reasoning tokens consume the budget before the visible response.

Handoffs

  • No orchestration deployment running? → invoke aicore-lifecycle-management
  • Credential/auth error? → invoke aicore-admin-resources
  • Need to find a model name? → invoke genai-hub-foundation-models
  • Want full Java SDK boilerplate (non-orchestration)? → invoke aicore-sdk-java
  • Want full JS SDK boilerplate (non-orchestration)? → invoke aicore-sdk-js

When to Load Reference Files

TriggerLoad
REST API details, request/response shape, Harmonized APIreferences/ORCHESTRATION.md
Document grounding setup, GroundingModule config, RAGreferences/GROUNDING.md

Bundled files

The model reads these on demand while the skill is loaded. They are exposed as readable files and are never executed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Genai Hub Orchestration AI skill do?

Configure and use the SAP AI Core Orchestration service: build prompt templates, add content filtering, set up document grounding (RAG) pipelines, and call models via the Harmonized API. WHEN: user asks about the orchestration service, Harmonized API, prompt templating with variables, content filtering, grounding, RAG pipeline, document grounding, or building a pipeline that wraps an LLM. Why use Genai Hub Orchestration on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Genai Hub Orchestration is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Genai Hub Orchestration in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/SAP/ai-skills-library/tree/main/plugins/aicore-skills/skills/genai-hub-orchestration. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Genai Hub Orchestration?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Genai Hub Orchestration?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Genai Hub Orchestration with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Genai Hub Orchestration AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by SAP under the Apache-2.0 license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
