  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 2 bundled files

Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

Published by SteadfastAsArt on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Hydrogeological Analysis AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/SteadfastAsArt/geoscience-skills/tree/main/workflows/hydrogeological-analysis
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/SteadfastAsArt/geoscience-skills.git /tmp/geoscience-skills
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/geoscience-skills/workflows/hydrogeological-analysis .claude/skills/hydrogeological-analysis
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Hydrogeological Analysis in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Hydrogeological Analysis on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Hydrogeological Analysis is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Hydrogeological Analysis

Produce a traceable groundwater interpretation, then fit only the model the available observations can support. One agent can complete this workflow; companion skills provide optional detail. Install only the packages used by the chosen branch; FloPy is an optional spatial-flow branch.

Choose the branch

Available information and questionAppropriate route
Logs, screen depths and construction records; no groundwater time seriesUse lasio / welly for QC and a conceptual aquifer framework; do not invent a head calibration dataset.
Observed heads with precipitation, evaporation or pumping seriesUse pastas for time-series response modelling and withheld-period validation.
Distributed heads, geometry, hydraulic properties, stresses and boundary conditionsConsider a FloPy/MODFLOW flow model; first specify the conceptual model and available executable.
Only sparse spatial observationsMap measurements with their observation dates and uncertainty; a verde interpolation is not a groundwater-flow solution.

Establish observations and reference systems

  1. Identify each well, screen interval, measurement method, timestamp/timezone, pumping status, missing-value codes, units and quality flags. Preserve the original observations and a separate table of corrections/exclusions.
  2. Distinguish measured depth in a log, depth to water below a measuring point, and hydraulic head relative to a vertical datum. Convert depth to water using the surveyed measuring-point elevation and its reference; never treat a log depth column or well bottom as an observed head. Use trajectory and datum information before aligning deviated logs with aquifer elevations.
  3. Bring well positions, geology and model grids into a documented CRS. Record vertical datum and units separately. Do not merge different screened aquifers into one time series merely because their wells are nearby.
  4. Inspect stress coverage and sampling support. Distinguish accumulated rainfall from rates, and observed evaporation from the quantity expected by the chosen recharge model. Missing rainfall is not zero rainfall. Record any infilling and its source; require stress coverage through calibration and model warmup.

Build and test the selected model

For a Pastas model, start with the simplest physically plausible stress-response structure. Match APIs, units and parameter bounds to the installed version; consult its versioned calibration API. Choose calibration and validation windows before fitting. Fit normalisation, response parameters and noise models on calibration data only; carry model state into validation using available stresses, not held-out head observations. Compare against a suitable persistence or seasonal baseline, inspect residual autocorrelation and examine wet/dry and pumping regimes separately.

For the optional spatial-flow branch, use the FloPy documentation for the installed MODFLOW version. Specify layers, active cells, hydraulic property units, recharge/pumping, time discretisation, boundary conditions and initial heads before building inputs. Check solver termination, water balance, dry/inactive cells and sensitivity to grid/boundary choices. FloPy does not make an absent MODFLOW executable or unconstrained boundary condition valid: retain prepared inputs and clearly mark simulation as not run when these are missing.

Interpretation and deliverables

  • Export the observation/QC table, units and reference-system metadata, conceptual aquifer assumptions, fitted configuration and software versions.
  • Report calibration and held-out metrics in head units, validation dates, residual diagnostics, and uncertainty from parameters, stress inputs and alternative plausible conceptual models. Keep extrapolation separate from tested prediction.
  • Use logs to constrain stratigraphic hypotheses, not to assign hydraulic conductivity or connectivity from an uncalibrated curve. Electrical resistivity, lithology and permeability are not interchangeable quantities.
  • For spatial predictions, withhold wells or spatial blocks; for forecasts, withhold future periods. Tune model choices inside the training partition and keep the final evaluation observations untouched.

Executed daily groundwater case

The bundled Pastas runner completes a daily recharge hindcast from locally supplied raw CSVs, a fixed design and provenance: QC and explicit unit conversion, calibration-only stress infilling/initialization, Gamma + linear recharge + AR noise fitting, three calibration-only baselines, held-out metrics, residual/noise ACF, model save/load and CSV/JSON readback. It disables implicit stress filling and history extension. Each output records the unchanged date labels and unresolved vertical/time reference.

Read the public field-case recipe for the cached USGS/GSOD source, exact calibration/holdout dates, commands, input schema and observed limitations. The script is local to this installed workflow; the licensed regression data are separately stored in the project checkout.

Verification boundary

Executed with Pastas 2.0.0 using a fixed public Kingstown, Rhode Island, record: 2005–2013 calibration and 2014–2018 holdout. The head source is USGS; rainfall is GSOD and reference evaporation is a published estimate. Held-out RMSE is about 0.129 m against about 0.269 m for the training-month climatology. This is a hindcast conditional on observed meteorology, not a forecast with unknown weather.

Innovations still show autocorrelation, so parameter standard errors are not validated prediction intervals. Missing rainfall days use flagged calibration-month means; missing heads remain unscored. Absolute head datum, screen information and timestamp timezone are unresolved by the cached CSVs. No field MODFLOW calibration, aquifer-property truth, logging interpretation or cross-well spatial validation is inferred from this time-series test. Keep the optional FloPy branch's separate solver/water-balance checks and limitations.

Bundled files

The model reads these on demand while the skill is loaded. They are exposed as readable files and are never executed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Hydrogeological Analysis AI skill do?

Combine groundwater observations, well logs, and meteorological stresses into a checked hydrogeological interpretation or groundwater-level model. Use for aquifer monitoring and recharge/pumping response analysis, with spatial flow modelling only when its geometry and boundary data are available.

Why use Hydrogeological Analysis on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Hydrogeological Analysis is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Hydrogeological Analysis in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/SteadfastAsArt/geoscience-skills/tree/main/workflows/hydrogeological-analysis. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Hydrogeological Analysis?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Hydrogeological Analysis?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Hydrogeological Analysis with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Hydrogeological Analysis AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by SteadfastAsArt under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
