Use this skill when announcing a new lead magnet, free resource, template, tool, guide, checklist, or any new asset to your email list. Writes an "I made this for you" announcement email — the email you send your list when you've created a new free resource, tool, template, or piece of content specifically for them. Uses a proven 5-part structure: personal story of why you built it, what it is, what's inside, how to get it, and a PS that reinforces the value. This email style consistently outperforms generic promotional emails because it frames the resource as a gift, not a pitch. Trigger on "announce my new resource", "I made this for you email", "resource announcement email", "new lead magnet email", "tell my list about my new freebie", "gift to my subscribers email", "new resource email", or any request to write an email announcing a free resource or tool you created for your audience.

  • Markdown instructions

A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • Self-contained

Everything the model needs lives in the instructions — no extra files to sync.

  • Open source

Published by swan-gtm on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the I Made This For You Email AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/swan-gtm/gtm-skills/tree/main/skills/daniel-bustamante/i-made-this-for-you-email
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/swan-gtm/gtm-skills.git /tmp/gtm-skills
mkdir -p .claude/skills
cp -r /tmp/gtm-skills/skills/daniel-bustamante/i-made-this-for-you-email .claude/skills/i-made-this-for-you-email
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable I Made This For You Email in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads I Made This For You Email on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so I Made This For You Email is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Write An "I Made This For You" Email

Write the announcement email you send your list when you've built something new for them — a lead magnet, resource, tool, template, or guide. Frame it as a gift, not a pitch.

Why This Works

"I made this for you" emails are some of the highest-converting emails in any creator's arsenal. They work because: (1) the framing is generous — you're giving, not selling, (2) the backstory creates emotional connection — you explain WHY you built it, not just what it is, (3) they trigger reciprocity — when someone gives you something valuable for free, you pay more attention to everything they send next, and (4) they build trust and authority — you're demonstrating expertise by packaging it into a tangible asset. These emails routinely hit 2-3x the click-through rate of standard newsletters because the CTA is clear: get the free thing.

How to Use This Skill

When triggered, ask the user for:

To write your announcement email, I need:

  1. What did you create? — Name and format (PDF, Notion template, email course, spreadsheet, video, checklist, etc.)
  2. What's inside? — 3-5 key things the resource contains or teaches
  3. Who's it for? — The specific person who needs this most
  4. Why did you create it? — The backstory. What problem did you see? What inspired it? What personal experience led to this?
  5. How do they get it? — Landing page link, reply to get it, comment on a post, etc.
  6. Your paid offer (optional) — So the email can subtly bridge to it

The 5-Part Structure

Part 1: The Backstory (Why You Built It)

Open with the story behind the resource. This is the most important part — it's what separates "I made this for you" from "here's a link."

Good backstory angles:

  • The pattern you noticed: "I keep getting the same question from subscribers/clients..."
  • The problem you solved for yourself: "I spent 3 weeks building this for my own business, and it worked so well that..."
  • The frustration that triggered it: "I was tired of seeing [audience] struggle with [problem], so I..."
  • The conversation that inspired it: "A client said something last week that stopped me cold..."
  • The result that proved it works: "This is the exact [thing] that helped me [achieve result]..."

Keep it to 3-5 sentences. Set up the problem or motivation, then transition to the solution.

Part 2: What It Is (The Reveal)

Introduce the resource by name. Frame it as the solution to the problem you just described.

Formula: "So I put together [Resource Name] — a [format] that [primary benefit]."

One sentence. Clean. Clear. Then expand briefly on what makes it different or special.

Part 3: What's Inside (The Value Stack)

List 3-5 specific things inside the resource. Be concrete, not vague.

Bad: "Strategies to grow your email list" Good: "The exact 3-question survey I use on my thank-you page to segment subscribers (question templates included)"

Use bullet points here — this is the one place in the email where bullets work because you're listing tangible deliverables.

Part 4: How To Get It (The CTA)

Make the CTA crystal clear. One action, one link, no confusion.

Options:

  • Direct link: "Grab it here → [link]"
  • Reply trigger: "Reply 'SEND IT' and I'll send you the link"
  • LinkedIn giveaway bridge: "I'm giving it away on LinkedIn — comment 'RESOURCE' on this post to get it → [link]"

Repeat the CTA once more at the end for skimmers.

Part 5: The PS (Reinforce the Value)

The PS should do one of these:

  • Add social proof: "PS: I shared this with 3 clients last week and they all said it saved them 5+ hours"
  • Create urgency: "PS: I'm keeping this free for now, but it might become part of [paid offer] later"
  • Bridge to paid offer: "PS: This is actually one of the templates inside [paid offer] — but I wanted to give you this one for free"
  • Add a personal note: "PS: I genuinely spent [X hours/days] on this. I hope it helps."

Output Format

Subject line options:

  1. [Personal/story-driven option]
  2. [Value-driven option]
  3. [Curiosity-driven option]

Quality Criteria

The email must:

  • Lead with story, not features — The backstory should take up at least 30% of the email
  • Feel like a gift, not a pitch — Generous framing throughout
  • Be specific about what's inside — Concrete deliverables, not vague promises
  • Have ONE clear CTA — Don't split attention across multiple links
  • Sound personal — Written from one person to one person, not a brand to a list
  • Bridge to the paid offer (if applicable) — Subtly, usually in the PS
  • Be scannable — Short paragraphs, the value stack in bullets, clear CTA

What good looks like

A great "I made this for you" email leads with story, not features — the backstory takes up at least 30% of the email and explains WHY you built the resource, not just what it is. It feels like a gift, not a pitch, with generous framing throughout and concrete deliverables in the value stack rather than vague promises. There is ONE clear CTA — attention is never split across multiple links — and it's repeated once at the end for skimmers. The whole thing sounds like it was written from one person to one person, not a brand to a list, is scannable with short paragraphs and the value stack in bullets, and if there's a paid offer, it bridges to it subtly, usually in the PS.

Why use I Made This For You Email on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. I Made This For You Email is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install I Made This For You Email in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/swan-gtm/gtm-skills/tree/main/skills/daniel-bustamante/i-made-this-for-you-email. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use I Made This For You Email?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with I Made This For You Email?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use I Made This For You Email with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the I Made This For You Email AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by swan-gtm under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
