  • Markdown instructions

    A SKILL.md file the model loads on demand, so it only costs tokens when a request actually matches.

  • Works with any LLM

    AI skills are plain Markdown, not provider-specific code, so this works with GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model.

  • 10 bundled files

    Scripts, templates, and references the model can read while it works. Files are read-only and never executed.

  • Open source

    Published by Zechang-Xiong on GitHub. Read the source before you install it.

Installation

Install the Chinese Reference Formatter Skill AI skill in TypingMind to use it with any LLM, or drop it into another agent that reads SKILL.md.

1

Install in TypingMind

TypingMind installs a skill straight from its GitHub folder — it reads SKILL.md, bundles the resource files, and stores the result locally.

  1. Open the app and go to Plugins → Skills.
  2. Choose "Install from GitHub".
  3. Paste the skill folder URL below and confirm.
    https://github.com/Zechang-Xiong/chinese-reference-formatter-skill/tree/main
  4. Enable the skill in any chat where you want it available.
Plugins → Skills → Add skill → From GitHub URL, then paste the folder URL and press Continue.
2

Install in another agent

Any agent that reads the Agent Skills format can use this skill — copy the folder into that agent's skills directory.

Claude Code — .claude/skills
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/Zechang-Xiong/chinese-reference-formatter-skill.git \
  .claude/skills/chinese-reference-formatter-skill
Restart Claude Code after copying so it picks up the new skill.

Use it in TypingMind

Enable Chinese Reference Formatter Skill in any TypingMind chat and the model takes it from there. Its name and description sit in the system prompt, and the moment a request matches, the model loads the full instructions itself — you never invoke it by hand, and it costs no tokens until it is actually used.

The model loads Chinese Reference Formatter Skill on its own as soon as a request matches it.

Works with any AI model

AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so Chinese Reference Formatter Skill is not tied to the model it was written for. Install it once in TypingMind and use it with GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama, or a local model you run yourself — all on your own API keys.

  • Loaded only when it is needed

    The system prompt carries just the name and description. The instructions are fetched on the first matching request, so an idle skill costs nothing.

  • Switch models mid-chat

    Because the skill is instructions rather than code, changing model does not break it — the next model reads the same SKILL.md.

Skill instructions

This is the SKILL.md content the model loads. Read it before installing — a skill is instructions your model will follow.

Chinese Reference Formatter

Overview

Convert one or more Chinese or English reference titles into 通用中文论文参考文献条目 and BibTeX. Verify bibliographic metadata from public sources before formatting; do not invent missing references. When search is unavailable, explain that verification cannot be completed; do not describe unverified input as confirmed.

The formatter implements the common numeric templates in the reference file. It is not a complete implementation of GB/T 7714—2015 or GB/T 7714—2025. For a specified edition or institutional style, compare the requested rules with the output and adapt it before claiming compliance. See the reference file for version scope.

Workflow

  1. Read references/chinese-reference-rules.md before formatting.
  2. For each input title, search public metadata sources and compare title, authors, year, venue, DOI/ISBN/URL.
  3. Prefer DOI, publisher, university repository, official journal, official conference, official standards, or patent pages over aggregators.
  4. If no DOI or official page exists, require a strong title match plus matching author/year/venue from at least one credible source.
  5. If sources conflict and no source is clearly authoritative, return an ambiguity note instead of choosing.
  6. If no clear match exists, output 未找到与“<title>”明确对应的公开文献。
  7. Normalize confirmed metadata to JSON and run scripts/format_reference.py to produce the reference entry plus BibTeX. Preserve the verified source title's capitalization. Set language (zh or en) when known, especially when the author script differs from the document language.

Search Sources

Use sources appropriate to the document type:

  • DOI and publisher metadata: Crossref, DataCite, official publisher pages.
  • Broad scholarly metadata: OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar.
  • Computer science papers: DBLP, arXiv, conference/open-review pages.
  • Biomedical papers: PubMed/NCBI and official journal pages.
  • Chinese references: DOI/publisher pages, university repositories, official journal pages; use CNKI/Wanfang metadata when reachable from web search.
  • Standards, patents, books, theses: official standards bodies, patent offices, publishers, library catalogs, university repositories.

Formatting

The formatter accepts a JSON object, a JSON list, or { "items": [...] } through stdin or --input.

bash
python3 /path/to/chinese-reference-formatter-skill/scripts/format_reference.py --start 1 < metadata.json

Resolve the script and reference paths relative to this installed skill, not the user's working directory. Replace the example absolute path above with the actual skill directory.

Common normalized fields (plain text, not pre-escaped LaTeX):

For ambiguous personal names, prefer { "family": "Smith", "given": "John", "suffix": "Jr." } or the explicit string Smith, Jr., John. Use { "literal": "Organization name" } for institutions. Omit unknown authors; blank placeholders are ignored.

json
{
  "type": "article",
  "title": "Paper title",
  "authors": ["Family, Given", "中文作者"],
  "journal": "Journal name",
  "booktitle": "Proceedings name",
  "year": 2026,
  "language": "en",
  "volume": "12",
  "issue": "3",
  "pages": "1-10",
  "doi": "10.xxxx/example",
  "url": "https://example.org",
  "access_date": "2026-05-07",
  "sources": ["https://source.example"]
}

Supported type values include article, inproceedings, book, chapter, thesis, mastersthesis, phdthesis, report, standard, patent, newspaper, and online. For thesis, set degree to master or phd only when verified; an unknown degree uses @misc in BibTeX. Set mark to J/OL, C/OL, etc. when the requested style needs an online carrier, and supply the actual access_date and url (or DOI). A URL alone does not change a traditional document into an online resource.

Default output for each resolved item:

text
标准参考文献:[1] ...
BibTeX:
```bibtex
...
```
核验来源:...

Preserve the user's input order. Start numbering at [1] unless the user gives a different starting number. Send a batch in one formatter invocation so duplicate citation keys receive unique suffixes. Do not append to a project .bib file unless the user explicitly asks; when updating existing entries, preserve their keys to avoid breaking manuscript citations.

Conflict Rules

  • DOI or official source metadata wins over aggregator metadata.
  • Publisher version wins over preprint metadata when formatting the published version.
  • Preprint metadata is valid only when the user asks for the preprint or no published version exists.
  • Keep type, venue, year, URL, and DOI from the same publication version. An arXiv-issued DOI identifies the preprint record; do not attach it to a conference or journal record as that publication's DOI.
  • If author order, year, venue, or page range conflicts, state the conflict and cite the competing sources.
  • Use the actual current date for online access dates unless the source provides a citation access date or the user specifies one.

Common Mistakes

  • Do not format from title guesses alone.
  • Do not silently translate titles or author names.
  • Do not list more than three authors before 等 or et al.
  • Do not force a school-specific thesis requirement unless the user explicitly provides that institution's rules.
  • Do not count online resources or standards as ordinary journal/conference papers unless the user's style guide explicitly says to.

Bundled files

The model reads these on demand while the skill is loaded. They are exposed as readable files and are never executed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Chinese Reference Formatter Skill AI skill do?

根据中英文文献题名核验公开元数据,生成通用中文参考文献和 BibTeX。Use for Chinese academic references, GB/T 7714-style bibliography formatting, and citation completion from literature titles.

Why use Chinese Reference Formatter Skill on TypingMind?

Because you install it once and use it with any model. Chinese Reference Formatter Skill is plain Markdown rather than provider-specific code, so the same skill runs on GPT-5, Claude, Gemini, Grok, or a local model — and you can switch model mid-chat without it breaking. TypingMind runs on your own API keys, so you pay providers directly instead of a per-seat subscription, and your skills and chats stay in your own storage.

How do I install Chinese Reference Formatter Skill in TypingMind?

Open Plugins → Skills → Install from GitHub in TypingMind and paste https://github.com/Zechang-Xiong/chinese-reference-formatter-skill/tree/main. TypingMind reads its SKILL.md and bundles its files and installs it as a skill you can enable per chat.

Which AI models can use Chinese Reference Formatter Skill?

Any model you connect in TypingMind. AI skills are plain Markdown instructions rather than provider-specific code, so GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and local models can all load this skill when a request matches it.

How many AI models can I use with Chinese Reference Formatter Skill?

As many as you like. As long as a model supports skills, you can use Chinese Reference Formatter Skill with it — GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek, Mistral, Llama and more — all on TypingMind with your own API keys.

Is the Chinese Reference Formatter Skill AI skill free?

Yes. It is published on GitHub by Zechang-Xiong under the MIT license. You only pay your own AI provider for the tokens you use.

What are AI skills?

An AI skill is a reusable instruction bundle that teaches an AI model how to do one specific task. It follows the open Agent Skills format: a SKILL.md file with a name and description, plus any scripts, templates or reference files the model may need. The model reads the instructions only when your request matches the skill, so an installed skill costs nothing until it is used.

How are AI skills different from plugins or MCP servers?

A plugin or MCP server gives a model new tools to call — code that runs somewhere and returns a result. An AI skill gives the model knowledge and process instead: how to approach a task, which steps to follow, what good output looks like. Skills are plain Markdown, so they need no server, no API key and no runtime, and they work with any model.
